Good win and great job by the BP.
But we still suck.

Some good news for this sucky team.
Alex White threw some long toss yesterday and could begin his rehab assignment in 2 weeks.

This team just baffles me with their level of pure sucktitude...
A little off topic but there was a debate on WKNR yesterday that IF the Tribe were to be "buyers" at the deadline whether the need has now switched from a right handed power bat to another innings eating starter.
Take into consideration the only guys we can somewhat rely on are CC, Masterson & Tomlin. Carmona and the other guy (keep forgetting his name he's so insignificant) are junk. You can't rely on White coming back or Carmona bouncing back. Also can't put all of your eggs in the Gomez or David Huff "basket." Plus the "big 3" are starting to get into unchartered territories with their number of outings/innings pitched.
Thoughts? Bat or arm?

It would be nice to get both. But being realistic, that won't happen. Acta was saying, in a interview yesterday before the game, that they are seriously in need of a RH bat and that the FO was doing work.

I would like Bret myers or even kuroda as a back end starter. You never know but we could see Pomeraz in September.( very Unlikely but stranger things have happened)

I've seen guys skip AAA before. It's not out of the question. If he can command all 3 pitches and get his pitch count down, it would be possible. There's no doubt his stuff is good enough now. He has struck out over 30% of batters faced this year. That's incredible.

We have arms in the minors. We don't have a RH slugger. The choice is clear

And don't forget about Alex White coming back. I realize he's coming off an injury. But he could be the guy to make this staff really good. He was on his way before being hurt.

I think that Greg Swindell came straight from either A ball or AA back in the day. He got rocked, I believe, to the tune of about 20 runs in his debut against the Red Sox. He obviously didn't give em all up but he got shelled.

The impression that I got from this dialogue yesterday is that they are expecting Brantley, Druby & Pronk to stay "static" and are expecting "big second halfs" out of Santana, Sizemore & Laporta. I'm not confident that the arms in the minors can get them over the hump, but I'm also not confident in the second half expectations of Sizemore & Laporta.

Agreed. It also easier for a great young pitching prospect to come up and do well right away in the bigs than it is for a great young hitting prospect.

Could be a scary good rotation if one of those guys step up as a true ace. IMO the Tribe has a bunch of #2's.

Yeah, they are all SHIT!
But, if you got 5 #2s, your gonna win the central every year until someone steps up their game lol. Masterson has been fucking brilliant all season as well. Id label him a #1, but not an Ace yet. An Ace, for me, is a step above a #1.

Yes that is what I am saying. Also wasn't really trying to imply all of the pitchers in the rotation are #2 guys.

I understand what you're saying, however, the Tribe has a few guys who definitely have "Ace" potential.
Masterson has been brilliant this year. His #'s compare very well to the other top pitchers in the AL, and this is with LH batters killing him. When he figures out LH hitters, and he will, because he's already made drastic improvements from his first start last year, he'll be an ace.
Alex White has #1 stuff as well, imo.. However, neither of these guys may have the stuff Pomeranz has. He may be a legit ace, not just a #1.
Tomlin is a #2 or 3 caliber guy, and Carrasco has #1 type stuff, but has lacked the consistency so far. He'd be a scary 3-5 guy in the rotation though.
As Laley said though, 5 #2's would probably dominate the Central, and really, put the Tribe in great position period. Look at what they've done already with 2 stiffs (Talbot and Fausto)... The bullpen is amazing as well, and for the most part, pretty young.
