Well, not quite yet but starting today it is. Don't know when they'll start letting you sign up.
This is awesome as Spotify kicks the shit out of pretty much everything else.

Because it comes with all the music. Google/Amazon/Itunes doesn't come with music.
You don't have to upload or own these songs, you get.

I've been using this like crazy the last few days. I'm really close to upgrading to one of the paid accounts.

The thing I don't like about it (compared to my iTunes), is that (to my current knowledge) I can't play spotify songs to my remote speakers. I have a stereo system set up to an Apple Airport Express (airtunes) where I can stream my music from either my iPod or my MacBook Pro. If it had this capability, I'd pay for it!

You can pay for it. It's $10/month.

I see nothing about Apple Airtunes on here:
Spotify throughout the house
With Spotify Premium you can enjoy all the music from the comfort of your own home. Play directly on home stereo devices, no computer needed.
The sweet sound of Sonos
Connect your Spotify Premium account to your Sonos wireless music system and stream your tunes to any room in the house. With Sonos’ expandable multi-room system you can enjoy your existing playlists and the entire Spotify catalogue in your living room, kitchen, bedroom and every other corner of your house.
Rock the house with Squeezebox
Create a multi-room music system with your Logitech Squeezebox Touch or Radio simply by adding more players in other rooms. Access your personal music library, connect to Spotify Premium to listen to all your playlists and tune in to thousands of internet radio stations.
A match made in Hifi
Access your playlists, “What’s new” and “Starred” lists on the latest Onkyo home cinema receivers. All you need to enjoy Onkyo and Spotify in full HiFi is an internet connection and a Spotify Premium subscription.
Digital TV is not just for watching
TeliaSonera digital TV customers with Spotify Premium can access a streamlined version of our music application to listen to their Spotify playlists from the comfort of their living just using their TeliaSonera remote control. (Currently available in Sweden and Finland).

If I ever decide to switch to a paid account I'll probably be using the Zune Pass thing instead simply because for $12 a month (with the yearly subscription) you get what you get from Spotify and you can keep 10 tracks a month forever. Although it's only useful if you use devices that are compatible with the service (which I have several of so it fits).
