I'm not usually a movie snob but I generally can't stomach it when people say they can't watch movies if the story can't really happen. I have no problem with people not being interested in swords and sorcerers but damn it shouldn't have to be "real" to be enjoyable. Have an imagination lol.

Analogy Fail.....people eat McDonald's because it's readily available, fast and cheap. I don't know of anybody who eats McDonald's because they're a 5 star restaurant.

Regardless, you can't really compare it to the movies which is a slightly more level playing field. IMO Avatar wasn't a great movie, and certainly not good if you do nothing but read the printed script. As an overall visual performance however, it is quite good which is why people went to see it.

You can't judge a movie by solely its script/plot....otherwise it would be no different from a book.

Ha I don't see everything or like everything but I can't lie if I am entertained I do say it's good. Doesn't necessarily mean I think it's a good movie. Just that I was entertained. Going to watch movies is my past time though that is for sure. The main reason I never watched the Harry Potter flicks is because I thought they were more geared towards kids.

I did. We got there an hour early and still had to sit in the 2nd row. The movie was pretty entertaining and I wish they were going to make more. The ending was a little predictable and just ok. (I'm not sure what I would have done differently but I didn't love it.)

I didn't read the book and I still had a pretty good idea how it was going to end. That part was actually good because I wasn't 100% sure how it would happen. But then they had a little bit more and I didn't really love that part.

Yeah cause the first book didn't come in 1998 or anything when you probably were 12 or younger. So adults now who are in our early to mid 20s have followed the books since they were teens/preteens. I'm not going to call anyone crazy for never seeing the movies or reading the books some people aren't into the same type of stuff. But to say you're not into now because you are not 12 is kinda funny.

I'm in this category and never cracked any of the books/seen any of the movies.

Stop generalizing.

I didn't all in the early to mid 20s have read or should have read the books/watched the movies(hence the 2nd part of post) just your posted implied that you had to be 12 right now to like to read the books/watch the movies.

These movies are not at all geared towards 12 year olds lol. I would be scared shitless if I saw this as a 12 year old. The books and movies are not children books/movies at all. Just because it is fantastical doesnt make it for kids.

And films can also be readily available, fast, cheap, require little emotional or mental investment in them, etc.

I think you can judge a lot of a movie by it's script/plot, obviously the visual part is important. But a shit film will still be a shit film regardless of whether it's filmed well.

I've yet to see a minute of one.

The girl wanted to go see it last night, luckily she had committed to taking me to a baseball game on vacation months beforehand (spending this week in Niagara, Thursday was a Toronto trip which included tix to see the Blue Jays demolish the Yankees 16-7). Thank god, lol.
