Netflix also announced today that those who want both DVD rentals and unlimited streaming will need to start paying more. Instead of paying the current $9.99-per-month fee for unlimited streaming and unlimited DVD rentals, customers will need to pay $15.98 a month for a single DVD out a time, paying almost 60 percent more for the same service. The company said the fee includes $7.99 for unlimited streaming and $7.99 for its new bare-bones plan. Those who want two DVDs out a time will need to pay $19.98 per month.

Earlier today, Engadget reported that a "tipster" claimed that Netflix was nearing a dramatic shake-up in plan structure that would push its streaming-and-DVD pricing up to $15.98.

Movie studios continue to pinch NetFlix. Hopefully this will help add the needed revenue to vastly improve te streaming side, because I'm done with the DVD option after September. No way I'm paying the extra amount when I have to wait an extra month just to see the movie I want to see on DVD/blu ray

If Netflix doesn't get more content on their streaming, given the price hike, I could see people dropping Netflix.

Since ending our contract with Dish, we use Netflix and Hulu+ and it saves us a lot of money. My biggest problem with Netflix is they keep raising the prices and don't add much if any new streaming content.

Exactly. That is a big problem, and I don't expect this to the last price hike either.

Just purchased the Roku and have Netflix/Hulu+ for about a month now. This price hike doesn't please me.

Jesus. I was thinking like 2 bucks more or something. That is a STEEEEEEEP increase. Sucks, I may go month by month switching to Streaming and DVD. DVD is needed for a good amount of what I have in my queue....but fuck a duck...16$ for streaming and a single DVD!?!?!?

What if we are just getting the streaming without the dvd's? Maybe I overlooked it but I didn't see anything about that price on there.

I think we're paying $7.99 now so not such a biggie to me. If I was buying dvd's I'd be pissed though.

If you just stream without DVD's it's $7.99 I believe.

We currently have the one DVD out at a time and unlimited streaming for a little over $12 with tax. No way i'm paying $18+ for the same exact service.

What is their system for what they stream? I was trying to watch all of the Harry Potter movies before Friday and I can't watch any of them instantly.

They have to pay the movie companies a certain amount to stream the movies. So something like Harry Potter which is produced by Warner Bros they will be asking a pretty nice price to stream it also since its a popular movie/series it would be a lot.

As for me I might be cancelling Netflix I really don't use it much anymore anyway. I've watched almost all the shows I've wanted through the mail anyway might keep the streaming around but I doubt it.

Man, this blows.

This is a big price hike for me...I recently switched to streaming + 2 blu rays out at a time just to catch up on a lot of movies--- wife and I have been watching 3-4 newish releases per week since nothing is on TV.

I've read rumors of Hulu plus slashing prices to $4.99 per month, so it seems strange that Netflix is doing this.

I'll at least be dropping to 1 Blu Ray at a time...
