No. Ruth, Dimaggio, Gehrig, Mantle, and Berra are all ahead of him. Then he is in the discussion, along with Rivera, for the next 5 spots. Id be incline to put Whitey Ford at 6, and then probably Jeter.

Damn you Jeter! I'm swinging by the SkyDome for a Blue Jays/Yankees game next Thursday (first game after ASB) since I'll be up that way and was hoping he would stretch it out 2 more games so I could see it in person.

Not even close. Not even top 10. Good player, good ambassador for the game, but not in the same class as Ruth, Dimaggio, Mantle, Gehrig, Ford, Berra, etc. MAYBE would crack the top 10 in some polls, but not in mine, as I think guys like Mattingly, Rizzuto, Reggie Jackson, Arod all are better.

Those guys are all "legends" who have a mystique about them because no one really saw them play. If you put their numbers up against Jeter's (again, when he is retired and out of baseball for a few years), they easily match up. And Jeter defines what a true Yankee player is. The Captain. He's easily top 10, and imo, will be top 5.

I probably wouldn't include A-Rod as an all-time great Yankee just because of how much of his career (including four of his best seasons, OPS-wise) were with Seattle and Texas. He's been an excellent player as a Yankee, but I wouldn't consider him a FRANCHISE legend, especially with the players they've had through their history.

Congrats to Jeter...one of the few Yankees I've never disliked simply because they're a Yankee.

I have Jeter 7, so I agree he is easily top 10. But I dont think he is anywhere near the other 5. Lou Gehrig had the disease, which obviously stunted his numbers. But I dont know what you are talking about if you think Jeters numbers are gonna be better than Ruth, Mantle, or DiMaggio (who missed 3 years in the prime of career). Ford is a pitcher, stats cant really be compared. But Jeter is NOT on of the top 10 hitters of all time, Ford is arguably a top 10 pitcher of all time. You may be onto something with Yogi Berra, but the guy was probably the best player in the game for a 7 year span (3 MVPs).

I think those 5 are head and shoulders above (even numbers wise, which you said they werent). Then you have guys like Wade Boggs (but he doesnt count for his Boston days), Rivera (best closer all time, postseason), A-Rod will have the numbers to trump anything Jeter does, but roids and split career with other teams eliminates him. Mattingly has an argument but I have Jeter ahead of him.

The thing that is blowing my mind is how much people are ripping on the kid who caught the HR ball for NOT holding the ball hostage (big payday). LeCharles Bentley was ripping the shit out of him on Facebook today for not "cashing in." (shocker since Bentley is trying to cash in AGAIN after how he fucked the Browns over)

Don't get me wrong, I probably would have wanted some money (supposedly valued at $250-300k) too but this kid should be applauded rather than ridiculed.

^^^the kid is from my roommates hometown in NY. My roommate said he's a really cool kid and knew right away that he would not take the payday.

But after looking at his fbook, don't believe that he didn't take a payday from this lol rumor is the organization slipped him 100 Gs to him under the table. Only because they knew if some slimy collector got to him he might Not be able to turn down 750000 and they wouldn't have the ball.

He did receive a luxury box for the remainder of the season...which is expensive as SHIT.

Props to him, but I still think it was dumb. I easily would have sold out.

The kid should be applauded, but it would be hard to do the way baseball rips off the common fan. They do everything they can to squeeze a dime out of a person. When they do things like block radio links of games on the internet to charge you, charge $8 for a beer, and $4 for a hot dog, I would have a hard time giving them a discount on the baseball.

Hell...Earle Combs was a better all around player than Jeter. Yogi was much better as well. As was Bill Di ckey But I would put him in the top 10.
