Not to take anything away from Bill Engvall with his "here's your sign" routine, but have you have been asked a question and been in shock someone actually asked that question?

A real life example from tongiht. My wife and I went to dinner at Longhorn, my steak arrives....

Waitress, "is there anything else I can bring you right now?"

Me, "do you have any A-1 Sauce?"

Waitress, "Yes we do."

15 second pause.......

Waitress, "do you want me to bring you some?"

Did she think I was simply taking inventory of their steak sauce variety?

Haha, I've had the same experience. At Longhorn there should be a freaking bottle of A1 permanently sitting on the table. It's a steakhouse for crying out loud!

Two questions:

1) Why do you need A1 sauce?

2) Why not just say "A-1 Sauce"? Are you that dumb to assume that a steak place doesn't carry A-1 sauce?

Let me just say many steakhouses dont put out A-1 because they have theyre own brand ,but if you ask for it they will bring it to you .
The waitress was probably just your average good looking college student air head . Too much party time for this girl
The last thing Id say is why ruin a perfectly good piece of meat with black ketchup .. You are probably the type who also likes the meat well done.
Any true steak eater knows ,medium rare with some mushrooms on the side is just perfect.

well i've been to some restaurants that didn't offer A-1. But if you asked if they had it, immediately after she asked if you needed anything else, she should have put it together that you needed it.

Tis true. If it's a truly good cut of meat it should need no sauce.

I disagree. I like a little steak with my A-1. I could eat A-1 by itself!!

I think A-1 is a viable option if the steak is overcooked or you're using some piece of shit cut of meat. I'd never ask for A1 at a restaurant, and honestly the chick probably paused because she thought you were probably the only dumbass that's asked for A1 at a steakhouse in her career.

It depends on the cut and the seasoning. I see nothing wrong with using A-1 if it needs it... but at least taste the fucker to see if it needs it first.

This. I like A1 a lot but won't put it on a decent steak.

And for the OP, perhaps she was mocking your English in a subtle way?

A1 is a preference, not one I usually take tho, unless my steak is dry or just a crap chunk of muscle meat not properly jaccarded or cross cut.

Im a Mid Rare to Medium guy, Ill eat any temp, but I like juice and blood, and honestly if it moo's at me....I wont complain.

I don't get the "needing" it part. French fries don't "need" ketchup, buts it's even better with it. I love steak. But I love it even more in A-1 sauce.

Do you eat a burger plain? So you dont miss out on the taste?

RINGZ.....I understand the point you were trying to get across before this thread became one that is debating using A-1 or not, so I will try to get it back on track......Your statement reminds me of how irritated I get when I go thru a fast food drive thru and order a BLACK coffee. 9 out of 10 times I get the response back from worker "You want cream with that?.................... anyway....A-1? seriously? must have been a nasty steak..

I see nothing wrong with asking this. I love A-1. And on occasion I will use Lea & Perrins with my steak at home.

To say A-1 is black ketchup is an insult to ketchup bottles everywhere.

Anyway back to the topic before all the steak experts got ahold of the thread.......I worked at a car wash in my younger days and people would pull up daily and ask "Hey ummm do you guys wash cars here"? Or when you were the "seller" you would sit on this bench up front below a 5 foot long sign that said OPEN and people would always pull up and say " Are you open"?
We used to have a bulletin board in the shop and would post stupid question of the day.

That's about it for me. Rarely do I use steak sauce. If it's a good cut of meat cooked properly it won't need it. Taste it first before drowning the poor thing.
