Latest word might be he is days away from picking the Hoosiers (over Mizzou, Alabama, and Oklahoma). Would easily be the biggest get in IUs in recent history.

Brother has pleaded with him to come down and play with him, despite the fact he will take his spot. Regardless of his final decision, Coach Kevin Wilson has done a tremendous job recruiting this kid.

I think Indiana would be a great fit for him since ND is out of the running.

did a little research--here's a pretty good article on "why Indiana"

http://www.crimsonquarry.com/2011/6/27/2246721/why-indiana
So, why Indiana? Indiana is years removed from actually being a competitive program and they have never been anything close to prestigious. Even on a lightning in a bottle, one year of awesomeness type scale of success, Indiana has never really reached that pinnacle. Why would any highly coveted recruit that has his pick of any school with National Championship dreams choose the Hoosiers, where the constant rebuilding state of the program has us several years away from any such visions of grandeur? Because it’s Indiana.

From the few interviews the number one rated QB prospect in the nation has done compared to many others in his position from previous years, you can tell the kid is quiet and prefers to shine the spotlight elsewhere. Indiana is the place to do that. Certainly he would come to campus as the most heralded football recruit to ever set foot in Bloomington, but he would also be competing for the campus spotlight with the likes of Cody Zeller and Yogi Ferrell. There is no mistaking that Indiana is a basketball school, but a competitive football team would also get a plethora of support. A player looking to get local recognition but to stay out of the national spotlight and scrutiny of the bigger schools would do well to choose IU.

As Lotz said, it his uncle. His brother is currently QB at Indiana (Dusty Kiel).

He is a top 15 talent in the country, the #1 QB.

Interesting. Even after vball's article, I still ask "Why Indiana?"

Thats what everyone wants to know lol.

The most common reasoning given is he wants to play with his brother and allow his parents to be able to watch both play each week. That, and the fact that he wants to stay out of the spotlight and is a huge IU basketball fan, so that ties together nicely.

In the end, its still crazy to me, and until e commits, I wont fully believe the rumors.

I'd think being the starter as soon as he steps foot on campus plays into it too. Having his brother there and being close to home makes sense too.

I hope he goes to Indiana. It's too bad the depth issue at Notre Dame was a deal-breaker.

I am afraid to think of how good Oklahoma would be with him and DGB there. Jessssus.

Wilson is putting together a fairly nice class. He's already landed a couple studs from Warren Central (Indiana's Cleveland Glenville) and a highly ranked recruit out of Ben Davis. Getting Kiel would be tremendous for the Hoosiers.

If the kid is that good, there's no reason why going to Indiana would hurt his NFL chances, except maybe him getting injured by a porous offensive line (worst case scenario), so I can see why he'd choose there. That would be a nice get for Indiana and would certainly add some excitement to the B10 having the #1 QB recruit.

But would he receive the same level of coaching, and therefore develop similarly?

Indiana's coaches are pretty good, so I'd say yes.

I agree. They are still good enough to be B1G coaches. Obviously some are better than others, but I think good enough for the #1 QB prospect in the nation.

He's going to Indiana (a Big Ten school), not South Dakota State.

I'm not trying to discredit them. I really don't know anything about their staff or even what type of offense they run.

More power to him for doing the unusual, but at some point you have to be selfish.

Indiana's new head coach and staff came from Oklahoma. Coach Wilson was the QB's coach and offensive coordinator. Think Sam Bradford.

Lol after developing Sam Bradford into the #1 pick in the NFL Draft, I only wonder what Kiel is thinking........

Bit of an update. He delayed the decision cause the announcement got out and he doesnt want a big presser or anything. So he isnt saying when it will be, other than this month.

This also makes it sounds pretty promising for IU, but Im not getting my hopes up.

I hope he decides soon. The son of a guy that I work with is being recruited as a QB at some of the same schools and they are all waiting for him to decide and then all the other guys will fall into place. There are about 15 kids waiting and being told "you are #2." LOL, how many are actually #2 I don't know.

Thats funny. Oklahoma just picked up a 4* QB yesterday. Who knows if it will affect anything or not, but it certainly doesnt hurt IU.

Committed to Indiana. Laley is probably already to drunk to post it.
