Agreed. That should make things interesting for Indiana in the future.

Let's hope your coaching staff doesn't screw him like Minnesota's did with their highly-rated QB recruit, MarQueis Gray. Although Gray still has time to show his ability.

He committed because of the development of Sam Bradford. Bradford called him this morning or last night or sometime and vouched strongly for coach Wilson. Saying he is the reason, 100%, he is in the NFL today.
Do you mean screw him off the field, or in development?

In development. The old staff, to their credit, stood by Gray while his ACT was figured out. But they refused to let him throw and forced him to spend almost all his time at WR the last two seasons. He was the #3 ranked dual-threat QB coming out of high school in 2008 (behind only Mr. Pryor and EJ Manual).

Gotcha. Well, if Wilson does half with Kiel than he did with Bradford. We are looking at the best Indiana team in a LONNNNNNNNNG ass time lol.

I mean, why would you let him play QB when you got a guy like Adam Weber throwing the football?
Great news for Indiana, and overall the Big Ten though.

I'm not sure what the guidelines are regarding this, but with all of the NCAA's rules and regulations, I would assume that Indiana covered their ass on this....Laley??bases_loaded;848084 wrote:Surprised this is legal in the NCAA

espn4d Pat Forde
IU's Kevin Wilson on podium. To answer a popular Twitter question from yesterday, Sam Bradford talking to Gunner Kiel not a violation.
That was from Pat Forde's twitter.

Yep, they made sure first. Bradford called the IU AD and asked I think.
I believe the reason being is that Bradford is not an alumni of IU, thus not a Booster or Ambassador or anything like that. Had it been for Gunner to go to OKL...different story I think.

That's retarded. Not that Bradford called him, just that it's ok because he isn't going to Oklahoma.

I was going to say...OSU self reported when some NFL Buckeye made a comment about a recruit in a high school all star game

Just curious. But if he isnt steering him to a school, but rather a coach, why would it be a violation?? At that point he is just another person not affiliated with the school right? Like if some random guy said go to IU, I like their new coach.

This is that gray area within the NCAA rules that piss people off...it may be a reportable offense in one case, then appear to be no big deal in another--it's confusing, and just plain messed up!!!

I don't think it is that big of a deal. I just think it's dumb that the only reason this is ok is because Bradford isn't from IU. How is it SUCH a big deal that he says "Hey this coach is great" if the coach is at his university, but when the coach goes to another university it's suddenly ok?

True, because either way he is steering a recruit to a particular school.

It would seem to give any coach who starts at a new school a little bit of an advantage. In theory, all the guys he sent to the NFL from another school could call up recruits and talk about him without any problems. However, I do see the NCAA point-of-view. It always comes down to money and Bradford has no financial interest in IU or its football team and there's a big difference between a guy giving a personal opinion and a guy actively recruiting on behalf of the school to which he's invested.

The way I see it is he isnt a booster. The NCAA wants to essentially keep boosters out of athletics (good luck with that). Anyone who went to a school is automatically a booster, if they have money, they will be watched even more. Because Bradford didnt go to IU, he isnt a booster. Its just dumb, because its the same thing he would be saying about Wilson at OKL, but at OKL he is a Booster as soon as he graduated.
The whole thing is dumb. Im just glad with all the problem Sampson brought IU they are checking about all these little things in all sports and not just blatantly doing stuff that is in the "gray area" even if they may get away with it.

i didnt think that was illegal, unless your considered a booster. IE, a graduated or avid fan with money, or donor etc, etc. Bradford "in theory" doesnt fit any of those guidelines, which is why I think it was legal. Whole organization is messed up though.

If the NCAA wanted to find something wrong with this, I'm sure they could...however, they're busy with another Big Ten team at the moment.

This is dumb.
World Wide Wes isn't a booster either. Yet people swear he is hand-feeding John Calipari recruits even though there hasn't been any consistent link/proof of it.
Perception kills amongst fans and media though. People take certain facts and run with them. Next we will hear that Sam Bradford was over at his house for dinner, texting him non-stop, buying him new shoes, etc...
