Do you really think this is the proper name to give to a event that wants to show support for victims of sexual assualt? I wonder how many people heard there was going to be a SlutWalk in downtown Grand Rapids today and showed up expecting to see a bunch of strippers and sluts.
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) - Hundreds of people gathered in downtown Grand Rapids this afternoon to take part in an event that organizers called 'SlutWalk,' designed to spread the message that victims of sexual assault and rape shouldn't be blamed because of what they wear.
The event stems from several others like it that were created after a Toronto police officer suggested that women wouldn't be sexually assaulted as often if they dressed less provocatively.
Organizers of the event say that their message is simple: The victim of sexual assault is never to blame, regardless of what they choose to wear.
Anna Bennett, the secretary of the Grand Rapids National Organization for Women said "It's blaming the victim, not the perpetrator for their actions, and it's assuming that men are animals who can't control themselves if they see a women in a short skirt or a low cut top. It's very symptomatic of a sexist society."
Organizers say they were pleased with the turnout to the event, and they were glad to get their message to "stop blaming the victim" out to so many people.

The name "SlutWalk" comes out of comments by a Toronto (Canada) officer when he said something along the lines of "women should avoid dressing like sluts in order not to be victimized." There have been Slut Walks all around the country (and around Canada) since that happened to advocate for victim's rights.

Damn.yeah.
The name of the event is kind of lame. I mean, pretty much any woman who isn't paralyzed slutwalks everyday. What is so different about this?

Do you hate women or just view them as sexual objects? That seems to be a common theme with serial killers. Just curious.....

Well, um, what else are they for, considering I don't eat sammiches?

if you don't eat sammiches, she should still be making them. you can just throw them out. think of the guy who's getting her in the next round once you're done with her.

If they were not all Sluts that participated in the SlutWalk, I think that constitutes false advertising and someone should file a complaint with the city.

Next time, we should show up, sexually harrass (or assault, whatever you like) them and see if the fact that they advertised it as a slutwalk stands up for us in court. Who's in?
Second thought, instead of next time, we should make sure it is when they're in Toronto.

Assuming we don't know the context (which the media rarely provides), how can you automatically say it is a "ridiculous" thing to say. Anyone who perpetrates sexual assault or rape is obviously to blame. That said, there is no excuse to dress like a hooker. It doesn't help matters. If I leave the keys in my ignition and my car is stolen, the thief is responsible. But I'd have a hard time convincing anyone that I didn't play a part in the problem with my stupidity. In our politically correct times, we have to say that if a woman walks around stark naked, she has absolutely no responsibility for what may happen to her as a result? That ain't the real world my friend.

It is appropriate because there are lots of assholes who say things like "well maybe if she dressed more modestly that wouldn't happen" or "she's asking for it by dressing that way". No, the blame is on rapist assholes, not how modestly or sluty a girl dresses.

A girl could be the sluttiest girl in the world, whether she dresses like it or not, and it doesn't mean she wants to have sex with you. A woman dressed provocatively may be looking for some dick - doesn't mean she's looking for your dick. Rape is a conscious decision made by one person and one person only and it has nothing to do with what she's wearing.
