I can 100 percent believe that. I mean, if I knew a Will Lyles and someone asked me about a Willie Lyles, I'd have no idea who they were talking about. Who would?

Couple guys here on base that I hang out with frequently are huge ducks fans. They said they gotta fire Kelly asap and try to slow the bleeding. But they said it sounds bad.

Oregon is going to get hit hard. There's really no differentiation for the NCAA on WHO got paid to coerce a player to join their school. Just the fact that they paid is enough. Even if unsuccessfully. Even if the money wasn't going directly to friends or family. There's apparant proof that Oregon paid to get a particular player to agree to join their squad.

Like Blago, it doesn't matter if he didn't really sell the senate seat, the simple act of soliciting that seat is enough to crucify him.

Oregon Football Seems Destined For Trouble
by Matthew Hays • Jul 2, 2011 4:03 PM CDT

When it comes to investigating college athletics, there may not be a better person out there than Yahoo's Dan Wetzel. He again appears to be at the forefront of another big story, as this time the University of Oregon has found themselves in trouble over an apparent $25,000 recruiting scandal with scouting service owner Willie Lyles.

Lyles apparently was paid the money by Oregon to provide recruiting services, though the services went well beyond the normal recruiting practices. He was paid to steer players to the University of Oregon, in fact Texas high school athlete Lache Seastrunk signed with Oregon in 2010 against the will of his mother. Lyles petitioned to have Seastrunk's grandmother sign the national letter of intent to attend Oregon, going around Seastrunk's mother who had doubts about wanting her son to attend Oregon.

There are also hand written cards sent to Lyles by Oregon head coach Chip Kelly and assistant Tom Osborne thanking Lyles for his help in recruiting the state of Texas. Among the other recruits who Lyles helped steer to Oregon is star running back LaMichael James, an early front runner for the Heisman Trophy in 2011.

Included in the report are numerous phone records and emails that deemed Oregon may have gotten caught with their hand in the cookie jar during these actions. The NCAA currently has no comment, but as with the ongoing saga at Ohio State, you know the NCAA compliance committee is certainly taking a look into Will Lyles and his relationship with Oregon.

Read this article by Jason Whitlock at Fox Sports. It's not that I don't agree with his portait of Lyles here however he labels him as a Rat, Snitch, Media Whore, etc....Notes he is going to get Oregon in trouble and ruin the eligibility of players. Well so are people at Ohio State but the media isn't labeling them rats, snitches, media whores, ect...No they are basically heros for bringing the giant OSU down. So there isn't a double standard huh?

Because what most bothers me about Willie’s latest attention grab is the possible harm he has done to two kids, Lache Seastrunk and LaMichael James. Their eligibility could be jeopardized. Oregon could land on probation, lose its coaching staff. James is likely to face ridicule from opposing fans for the allegation of academic impropriety. His Heisman Trophy candidacy might be hurt.
Well jees Whitlock what about OSU landing on probation, the coaches losing their job, Pryor losing a shot at the heisman?

I don't see where the two are related. Who is the snitch in the OSU case? Cicero? The feds? Gene Smith? If you are talking about the people who came out after all the shit went down, it isn't even close to the same thing.

And I don't agree with the article anyway. If you are going to do shady business, you can expect to one day pay the bill - everyone involved is on the hook for something, so no sympathy.

No it's not the same situation however here is a major sports writer on a major network showing sympathy to Oregon, the coaching staff, and players as if they were abused and taken advantage of by Lyles. BS, they new what they were getting into was wrong, paying for his services of recruits! No sympathy here!

He defended Jim Tressel and the OSU players with a pretty scathing indictment of the system, as well. And I should clarify, I do agree with him that Lyles is a dick - his claims that he's trying to be the good guy and didn't realize what he was doing are bogus. And I also agree that the system practically begs people to try and circumvent it. But, everyone playing knows the rules so I also don't feel sorry for them when they get caught - I wish the NCAA would just look the other way, but I don't blame them for not doing so.

OHHHHH now we are going to start talking about how screwed up "the system" is....when I was talking about it six weeks ago, it wasn't valid because I was an OSU guy.

The fact is, that almost everybody is 'non compliant' to some degree....and schools spend upwards of a $ million/ year pushing NCAA compliance paperwork just to maintain an illusion of adherence to the preposterous 400 page rulebook. It becomes a matter of who gets caught (aka who left a trail some reporter could find), and the 'punishments' that are meted out in very arbitrary ways.

seems as though LSU made it look way more legit. that's where oregon is really going to get hurt. even if LSU was just as dirty, everything i've seen says they had it covered up way better (because it looks legit, for now).
