I am sure that everyone has a couple of things they like about the INTERNET, such as porn, chat sites, social media sites, sports and business information. What do you think the downfalls of the INTERNET are, such as cheating by spouses, scam artist, bad parenting and laziness.

What are your opinions on the Internet, good or bad?

You are correct, do you think the internet has made it easier to accomplish them?

Those were just a couple of pros and cons listed, I am sure there are many more people could list.

I heart teh Interwebs. Over all it's a good thing. It just depends on how you use it. You have to be somewhat smart in order to realize what is real and the like. Cheating Spouses happened way before the Internet, the same with scams and bad parenting.

I wish I had it back when I was in HS. No more ventures to the library for research. Hell a computer back then would have been nice too. No more liquid ink, and waiting for it to dry when using a typewriter, for your freakin' book report papers/essay papers. (double spaced)

Not really, I mean, it's simplified some aspects of those things but cheating, scaming, bad parenting, and laziness have all been around and easy as long as there have been people dumb enough to be fooled and people mal-intented enough to want to steal/cheat/etc.

I think it has made it easier for people to cheat, scam and be lazy. People don't even have to leave the house now to try and meet someone to start an affair, they use craigslist or some other social site and go straight to a hotel without meeting before they hookup. People are so addicted to games that they very rarely leave their home and don't know what is happening with their own kids because they have become so lazy. The INTERNET has produced many millionaires if you think about it, Many of us would have never known about our long lost relative that lived in Nigeria passing away and making us the sole beneficiary to his millions of dollars that he had wanted to give us if we can supply our bank account information and maybe a small processing fee so it can be deposited

Because I believe that the Internet makes it easier to be dysfunctional?

There is a lot of good that has to be credited with the Internet but I believe it has its downside also.

It's changing the social skills, or lack thereof, of an entire generation.

Everything in moderation. Some people don't know when to stop.

Same holds true for the Internet.

Nah. Just combined them.

For example, now a scammer can be lazy.

It genuinely isn't causing a lack, but I agree that it is changing what they are.

The feeling of a lack of social skills can pretty easily be seen as based on the assumption that social skills are defined by prior generational norms, but social skills are defined by culture, and as culture changes, the behaviors we call "social skills" change along with it, such that in today's culture, a person who grew up in the 1970s would be considered socially inept for not being able to interact with people under the current social infrastructure.

Yeah the "people don't know how to talk on the phone argument" while still somewhat relevant isn't nearly as damning an accusation as it used to be. What with email, video conferencing, texting, etc all available pretty much everywhere having excellent phone skills isn't nearly as essential a trait. Still helpful but not essential.

I could say the same thing about a guy in his 50s who doesn't write emails very well and still has an @aol.com email.

The internet is a great tool but like any tool can be used incorrectly to cause harm (see cars, planes, guns, knives, etc).

PROS: Most everything. By turning on my computer and sitting down, I can access virtually any information I need and purchase most items I'd want.

CONS: Human nature. Nothing wrong with the Internet, itself. But people will use it to send out scam emails, set up pedophilic relationships and many other less-than-desirable things just because it's so damn easy if you have the know-how. You know...things like those hackers getting PSN taken down for a while or people who create viruses to fuck up other peoples' enjoyment of the web.

I'll rephrase for clarity.

It's having an impact on the social skills that existed and on the ones that maybe did not exist before the internet.
