Maybe it's how the article was written but this just doesn't sound right to me.

The mother and father, father seems most vocal about it, are upset that a memorial fund was set up in their son's names that will take the money donated and give it to charity in the boy's names. They think the money should go to them. The are unemployed(father has a temp job) and don't have much money.

It was the grandparents who set up the memorial fund. The article made it sound like they paid for funeral expenses as well.

This seems a little weird/off to me. I'm not in their shoes, so I can't say for sure how I would act, but I don't think I would file a report with the police over whether or not that money belongs to me and my family...

Well it's not really their money(the memorial fund, not the money used for the funeral). It is money donated by others in the community

Oh I see. I misunderstood.

The point actually remains, though. If those in the community gave it to the memorial fund, then it ought to go to the memorial fund.

I'm quite annoyed with the parents, if you can't tell. :D

These parents just lost the supposed best thing in their life, yet in their time of loss they're acting with greed and ignorance more so than gratitude and remembrance.

They should be thankful that people are donating into this fund and embrace it as an opportunity to help out others. Don't let the child die for no reason, instead, use this memorial to continue the life and memories.

I have a 1 year old daughter whom I love more than anything, so I can't imagine the pain I would feel by losing her, BUT I know I wouldn't act in selfishness and greed.

How the f*ck do you let your kids wonder away from your campsite? Even when I'm out in the yard doing work I'm keeping an eye on them let alone camping near a dam or river of somekind.

They have control because they set up the account you dip shit. Those boys didn't die so you could get rich. Maybe if you weren't such a fuck up you could have a real job and not be living in a van down by the river.

That was what I wondered when I first read the story about the deaths. Apparently they were camping and the boys woke up before the parents? One of the kids had cerebral palsy and trouble walking, but apparently was able to put on his own shoes and wander into the river. I just don't understand the whole scenario.

These parent need not to reproduce. They failed terribly at parenting and now they are looking to gain money from their failure. Sounds like 'ol dad (or half-dad) needs a nice wake up slap and get a real job.

When my son died we set upa fund for people who wanted to donate in lieu of flowers, and clearly that any money collected would be given to his high school's athletic booster club. We already had the funeral expenses covered and didn't need the money for that. My interpetation of this story is that the public thought they were donating to a specific cause (i.e. diverting the costs of the final expenses), not to line the pockets of the parents. I am glad someone else is stepping in and seeing the money is properly distributed.

well they got told by the bank they was already a fund set up. they need that money.


clowns. seems like (the kid had CP and the parents were clearly inept) this was probably best for the kids. they are in a much better place now.

...the kid prolly didn't just "wander" into the river. Possibly he was trying to end it all & get away from his psycho parents?

I have handled catastrophic injuries cases for nearly 15 years. I learned in a few months that some cases are about righting a wrong, but in all the cases, it really is just about the money.

At the risk of forming an opinion without know the background information, I felt there was something "just not right" about this situation from the beginning.

Kids a year apart with different last names, and being married to yet another man two years later doesn't bode well to begin with. Those of who who have been around toddlers for any length of time will share my concern about taking kids that age camping to begin with - let alone 25 feet from a flooded river. There's a period from about 18 month to 3 years in which kids are physically able to wander into to trouble, but have no sense of danger - you never really have a truly relaxed moment as a parent during that period of time.

The father has chosen to be unemployed by not going back to work...and the grandparents obviously knew the parents would not put the money to good use or they would have let them set up the account to begin with.My guess is the parents went to do it thinking sympathy would be an easy way to get money for their own use.They deserve nothing,and the little girl left in their custody should be removed pronto.
