I think people are underestimating how HARD it is to get open in the NBA if you arent athletic. I dont care how great you can work off screens etc, the guys in the NBA are so much faster and stronger that he is gonna have a really tough time getting open and getting his shot off. I think it makes much more sense that a great player has to turn into a role player than a role player being able to continue to be a role player. I could be dead wrong. But Diebler never, ever struck me as a guy who would do anything but get a few chances in lopsided games.
Oh I agree with your first part. Diebler will most likely never start an NBA game, but with his skills I don't think its unreasonable for him to make a roster and play against favorable opponents. He wouldn't do anything against teams like the Heat, but against the lesser teams I think he could have some good games. Defense in the NBA is overall underrated imo but teams need players who know their role, and Diebler can do that.
