Yes, those were the days! I remember in 1970 they had a really good trip out west early in the spring, and I'd be supposed to be wrinting freshman English themes, and I'd get caught up in the broadcast with Joe and someone before Marty(Claude Sullivan, Jim McIntyre, or Al Michaels) and not getting a lick of my theme done until after the game was over at 2am or so. Back then the games usually started at 8:05 pm local time(but didn't take as long as now). Wayne Simpson had a hot start to the season, and if I recall correctly, pitched two great games on a 9 game road trip to SF, LA, and the brand new team in SD. Simpson had a gaudy record and made the all star game, but wasn't much good after that. The Reds got a big lead and won the pennant, but weren't much match for the Orioles, then came together in 1972 when they got Morgan, Geronimo, and Billingham from the Astros.
