Good to see Lewis get the start.......Dusty obviously does his homework and knows Gomes is just 1/7 off of Dempster.
Unfortunately Lewis is 1/8 and awful in the OF.
If only there were another option that plays better defense???

Arroyo has been great against virtually every Cubs player....Dempster has beeen pretty tough as well:
Phillips 3/24! Yikes
Cairo 1/11
Votto 3/18.....but 2 HR
Lewis 1/8
Gomes 1/7
Bruce 3/11
Stubbs 3/9
Again Renteria not being available as he is 8/26
Hopefully the Reds can score well (even though it doesn't appear automatic against Dempster) and Hanigan can keep Arroyo rolling as Hanigan is 1/4 off of Dempster......but no Red even comes close to hitting Dempster as well as Ramon Hernandez who is 7/15 off of him.

Was it Arroyo that has a much better, or worse, starts during the daytime?
I forget which reds pitcher it is who shows a big difference.

Probably Arroyo as he works quickly and afternoon get away umps open up the zone and it's tough to see for the hitters sometimes.....all good things for Bronson to take advantage of.
Caree wins:
Bronson 107
Dempster 106

Day games Arroyo is 28-34 with a 4.33 ernie
Night games he is 79-64 with a 4.19.
Not much diff in era.
BAA is virtually the same.
I did read an article recently that did a study on hitting on a sunny vs cloudy day. It stated that averages are lower on a sunny day.
So.......maybe he gets hit more during the day compared to others.

In honor of best buds Karen Lotz and Tiger2003......Dan Uggla has the lowest batting average of any player in MLB who qualifies for a batting title.

I know "catching is the top priority" as John Fay let me know....but Hernandez is 7/15 off of Dempster and would've looked good in the 6 hole (where Dusty puts him in favorable matchups) with bases loaded as opposed to the 1/8 Lewis....but whatever.

Hanigan always catches Bronson. Dusty isn't that dumb to screw that up too.

I'm disappointed I can't watch the game. I scheduled today as vacation, planning to go to Cincinnati to watch, as I try to do when they have weekday afternoon games that are not televised. Suddenlink in Marietta usually shows the Reds Fox Sports Ohio telecasts, including the last weekday home game which was even a re-scheduled rain-out, on their leased access channel usually occupied by a jewelry channel. Today I get home and settled in for the game and the jewelry channel continues showing and no switch to the Reds came! Chagrin, chagrin!!

Reds doing poorly(0/2) with a runner on 3rd and one out. Both Cairo and Votto fail at their opportunities!

Bruce "picks up" Votto by singling on the 3-2 back-door slider for a 2 out RBI and the 1-0 lead.

Top of the 4th an important inning for Bronson, now with the lead and 2,3,4 due up for the Cubs.

Brantley says Janish' foot laziness cost him an error. Hopefully Bronson can pitch around it, hopefully with a DP that doesn't cost him any pitches!
