Its tough, cause those dumb rankings are always saying so and so is ranked 11, or France is 14 etc. But they dont take into consideration that a lot of times teams are experimenting unless its a major tournament. So you just have to look at how they perform with their top choice 11 and how they perform in these types of tourneys. USA has advanced in back to back WCs, played well in the Confed Cup (lost in finals to Brazil, beat Spain), and is always in the final of this tourney (splitting titles with Mexico) so I have no problem saying they are a top 10-15 club.
They wont ever be as good as Spain, England, France, Italy, Brazil, Argentina, etc because we dont have the depth and individual skill they do. But over the course of a tourney, we are good enough to compete with anyone...just not good enough over the course of 4 years for it to show in the rankings. And we also arent good enough to not play well to very well and advance, like those other team who can play poorly but scrap out a draw or 1-0 win.
