Any ideas on how the 2011 season looks for the Eagles? They lost some close games last season and this years schedule looks pretty tough. Thoughts?

Don't know how true but heard that JFK might close down. Can anyone confirm this or is this just rumors? I was Hoping Campbell would have renewed the rivalry again with JFK. but it didn't happen.

Well this has been something that's been said for about 30 years now...

Yeah bit with Chaney and the other Youngstown school over the last 13 years it is not at all impossible. There is to much tradition in those schools and as well in JFK to see all those schools with such a rich tradition close. The Youngstown area is still in my mind the greatest Ohio football and sports area in all of Ohio.

What are the bad things you hear? The potential for closing or something else? If you don't want to post openly, PM me. I am interested in what is out there.

Ok here is what i heard. I wont lie or sugar coat it. They are in Financial ruin. I'm not sure if it is true please someone confirm right or wrong. I don't want to see anymore area high schools closing. Campbell was real close to giving the city back to Youngstown. but they got out of it somehow. I just get sick when hearing some school is about to close. Look at the city series. Wow in the fall how can you not feel sick when you turn on the news and you don't hear the city series scores anymore. just simply sick over it. All that rich tradition gone. there getting close to being no more Youngstown football. just Youngstown area schools.

That would be a shame. I have not heard anything from anyone else about JFK potentially closing.

I heard from a board member that JFK is actually in the best financial shape of the 3 area catholic schools. But who knows how much truth there is to that...

But what about the football team this year? Does anyone have any information on how they may look this year? Starters coming back , etc?

The rumors about JFK closing are just not true. Enrollment has stabilzed and the school was rated the #1 academic institution in the entire Mahoning Valley. Finances are in excellent shape.
Now that we have that settled maybe we can talk football.

Here is the only place I have heard that they were in trouble. Let's talk football! What are the expectations for this year?

Who will take over for Coach Nap? Have they announced that yet? If so, I obviously missed it lol.
And I am also in favor of a renewal of Campbell/JFK

Yeah, they've announced that long time assistant Dave Pappada will take over.lets_go_devils;827211 wrote:Who will take over for Coach Nap? Have they announced that yet? If so, I obviously missed it lol.

Those Kennedy vs. Campbell games were classics. I don't know if there is any chance of renewing the series, but it would sure be great to see that happen.

The Campbell-JFK series seemed to help both teams.

If you guys search egnin1 on YouTube, one of the Campbell posters has old Campbell footage, including the news highlights from all 3 local channels of the classic 1990 CMHS/JFK game. Man I almost forgot how great that game was.

In slightly related news, former Warren JFK back Anthony Elzy has signed with the Buffalo Bills. If he's not the first Eagle to play in the NFL, he's definitely one of few

Always good to see the area kids do good no matter who they play for... Support the area... I seen a small preview on JFK and there new coach well new as in stepped up to Head coach.. He said he expects good things this year. and if they come together and keep working hard they should make a nice run in the playoffs..Y-Town Steelhound;851800 wrote:In slightly related news, former Warren JFK back Anthony Elzy has signed with the Buffalo Bills. Definitely nice to see...Elzy was a beast in his day. His performance against Girard (I wanna say in 2005?) will go down as one of the best single performances the area has ever seen.

JFK only has 42 boys out for the team so any serious injury will be difficult to overcome. The Eagles staff believes the team will be competitive, but with a new Head Coach there will certainly be a learning curve.
