Shaq retires - does this mean Wilt's vertical was 50 inches or not?

Great player. One of my all time favorites.

Who inducts him when he makes it to the HOF? Dale Brown? Kobe? Phil? Penny?

Wish him and Penny could have stayed healthy and in Orlando. Should have been the next dynasty after the Bulls.

He may as well have retired this year. Dude should be under arrest for theft. He didn't do anything for the Celtics this past year

Wilt was playing against guys who would be small forwards today lol, what Shaq did was more impressive. Didn't they have to widen the lane because of him?

and I believe the defensive 3 was for him as well. He was just sitting in the lane blocking shots and clogging the offense lol. Made the rule for his offense and then the counter rule to his defense.

Dikembe Mutumbo,Rik Smits,Todd McCullah,DaSagana Diop the 4 Centers that Shaq had to play against for his Titles.
Any of them better than Bill Russell? Willis Reed? Kareem Jabbar? Walt Bellamy? Nate Thurmond? Bob Lanier?
Wilt was a better athlete than Shaq in his prime. If they had espn type 24/7 coverage back when Wilt played in his prime you would change your tune.
Not only did he play basketball at Kansas he ran Track and field won the Conference High Jumping Championship 3 years in a row, threw the shot put 56 feet, Tripled jumped over 50 feet and ran a 10.9 sec 100 yd dash and had a 50 inch vertical.
If Shaq was so dominant why didn't he EVER lead the League in rebounding?? assists?? Wilt did it 11 times and led the league in assists, the only center to ever do that.

The fact that a center led the league in assists pretty much strengthens our argument.

Yeah right except he also led the league in rebounding that year (24.0) and averaged 25 ppg that year.

No one can really discount what Wilt did. His numbers are Ruthesque in the history of the game.

If you watch some of those old games on eSPNClassic you will see the centers of old didnt really have to go against guys hanging all over you. The centers got the ball in the post and didnt have the defender leaning up against them. They werent all over them defensively.

Shaq was dominant...no doubt about that. They played in different era's so it wil be hard to guage.....but Ya gotta give it to Wilt by his shear n umbers.

They had to change the damn rules Shaq was so dominant, thats saying something. If Shaq was back in those days playing against SF sized big men(and a league that allowed MUCH more physical play so he would stay out of foul trouble)...his numbers would of been out of this world.

I agree with skyhook. Yes, the majority of his opponents were smaller to him than those to Shaq......but the stats combined with his other athletic abilities are unmatchable. Those collegiate track numbers are silly for a guy of his size.
