I haven't read this whole thread. But I was a full scholarship athlete at a non profiting school. I didn't need any extra money to survive. Everything I needed was taken care of and I worked summers to have some spending money. I even took out a small loan my senior year to live off campus.

So guys like Demetrius Stanley are dead wrong when they said it's hard to survive on full scholarship (the whole argument is from a cash flow perspective).

With that said certain players should be able to make money off their likeness and keep their amateur status.

You weren't a professional prospect, your scholarship is not relevant. You are just tooting your own horn, essentially what you have been doing on every thread since this subject came up. shut up for christ's sake

Most college athletes will leave with a free education and some will have earned the chance to move on to the next level, I think that is adequate payment for their services.

Cool. Still doesn't change the fact that your scholarship has no relation to this topic. Kindly go blow yourself in private, cause the chatter doesn't give two shits.

How is it not related? You don't have to be the best on the team or even have professional potential for the school to profit off you. Last time I checked, there are 22 starting spots, not including special teams, on the football team. The fans cheer for them all, and the university profits from the whole team as well as some individuals.

Don't be such a dick.

How many universities actually profit off their athletes? Highly doubt dynasty's school profited off him and his team.

And gave me a free education? I'd play any sport at any college.

Couldn't you argue the university makes billions off of the researchers via grants and whatnot? I want to see a pie chart of all of the money that goes into the university. It isn't like the Rose Bowl win gave the university enough money to build another dormitory (as was the case with Notre Dame's victory in like 1925), it provides for other sports.

Giving the athletes a larger monthly stipend would be a slap in the face to the other students who take on tens of thousands of dollars in debt for their education. Two members of my immediate family played D-I sports and both of them made money going to school and never had any serious financial problems. The fact of the matter is the players live like kings around campus, giving them more money would not solve anything. You could argue it would only make the problem worse.

I think the issue is that the NCAA has a monopoly on minor league football and basketball, and doesn't want to lose it.

What do you do for the band members? They are out there practicing ad nauseam for the universities' million-dollar show and don't get what the football players get out of it. Shouldn't they receive benefits?

You would probably see Title ix involved too.

I don't disagree. But I was making a point that it's not only about professional potential. How would you even go about measuring that? I just think the whole idea is bad.

The tweet where he accused people of being bad parents if you didn't defend your child by any means is a fucking disgrace. Any parent who uses their influence to protect their child from the law when that child did something wrong is a POS.
