So guys like Demetrius Stanley are dead wrong when they said it's hard to survive on full scholarship (the whole argument is from a cash flow perspective).

With that said certain players should be able to make money off their likeness and keep their amateur status.

Giving the athletes a larger monthly stipend would be a slap in the face to the other students who take on tens of thousands of dollars in debt for their education. Two members of my immediate family played D-I sports and both of them made money going to school and never had any serious financial problems. The fact of the matter is they players live like kings around campus, giving them more money would not solve anything. You could argue it would only make the problem worse.

I think the issue is that the NCAA has a monopoly on minor league football and basketball, and doesn't want to lose it.

What do you do for the band members? They are out there practicing ad nauseam for the universities' million-dollar show and don't get what the football players get out of it. Shouldn't they receive benefits?
