I don't recall any of the nightly news shows making his gaffes a reason to disqualify him from running. Bachman and Palin make headlines for theirs. That's where the problem lies. You bring up Fox news. They are a cable channel.

The type of skewering that goes on against GOP presidential hopefuls and past presidents towers above anything the conservative blogasphere and Fox can muster.

CBS, NBC, ABC, the NY Times, AP and the others reach almost every household in the US via some form (newspaper, tv, radio, computer) while what gets out via conservative outlets may reach 1/10th of that.

In this case, the sheer volume makes a big difference, and helps set the meme that gets picked up by other media, comedians, and others who set social commentary.

We've seen it in the past with every Republican president since Nixon, and it's continuing with anyone who is even remotely considered a serious candidate these days.

Ford was a bumbler...Reagan was senile...GHW Bush was a klutz...W was dumb. Get the idea? Hard to refute a pattern that's so defined and consistent.

Where we disagree is that you think it's a concerted effort by liberals to skew the media whereas I think it's just that writers, producers, and people in the TV, film, and radio industries happen to be more likely to be liberal leaning than conservative. Much like I'd say that farmers are more likely to be conservative leaning in their political views.

Not sure what your Yahoo feed reads, but most of my day yesterday one of the lead stories was Bachmann's Wayne/Wayne Gacy gaffe. How often have you a piece on Obama's aforementioned MOH screw up? I wouldn't have known about it unless it was mentioned above - that's a pretty big gaffe. Hard to defend it and it is far more worse than mixing up an actor and serial killer.

Studies by Harvard and UCLA proving it have been posted ad nauseum. Former CBS reporter Bernie Goldberg's book is an eye-opener as well.

There's a book coming out next month by a UCLA professor. In it, he'll detail how he's studied the media for years and found every MSM outlet tilted to the left...some obviously more than others. I'm sure you'll find a reason to discredit his work, as most on the left also will.

Sorry, I don't do Yahoo. Hey, I'm sure you all suffer from some sort of persecution complex whenever the media is mentioned. Don't worry. Bachmann has a ways to go before she catches the King of Gaffes, Joe Biden. The more popular she becomes, however, I'm sure she will pass him up sometime soon. You just have to give her a little rope.


Speaking of the media, I see where Fox News' Chris Wallace phoned Bachmann personally to apologize for asking her if she was a flake. I wonder how much influence Roger Ailes had in Wallace's decision. So much for Mr. Wallace's independence and objectivity. I guess riding on daddy's coattails doesn't give him the right to ask the tough questions. He obviously forgot to read the memo regarding criticism of Republican candidates.
