Football season is finally over after 15 weeks and we have our 6 Division State Champions.

Just for fun, what if we had a Week 16 and narrowed that list down from six to three champions, kind of like it used to be when we had three divisions......AAA, AA, and A? Who do you think would win these matchups?

Class AAA
Hilliard Davidson - (13-1) Division I State Champions
vs.
Cincinnati Winton Woods - (13-2) Division II State Champions

Class AA
Youngstown Cardinal Mooney - (15-0) Division III State Champions
vs.
Kettering Archbishop Alter - (15-0) Division IV State Champions

Class A
Youngstown Ursuline - (11-3) Division V State Champions
vs.
Norwalk St. Paul - (15-0) Division VI State Champions

Which three schools do you think would still be standing after a hypothetical Week 16?

I'd have to say it would be:

Hilliard Davidson
Youngstown Cardinal Mooney
Youngstown Ursuline

And I'd say Mooney would be the best out of those 3.

Mooney wins all three. As far as Ursuline goes Mooney would smack them by at least 20.

How on earth did it take a botched call by the officials to give Mooney the win though??? I can't get over how small Ursuline is. Mooney should have pushed them all over the field.

Anyone see that game???

It's the psychology of rivalry games. We share a home field, though many (including me, a UHS grad) think of YSU as more our home than Mooney's (we walk to the games), and the familiarity makes the game tougher. If you look at the respective schedules/records over the years and the game scores, the only correlation is that the games are closer than you would project from stats.

Say what you want about size, who put a hand on Jones in the past 10 weeks? And the only reason Teague didn't have bigger numbers is that Jones was getting the touches. They both averaged nearly 10 yds a carry, including the playoffs.

Jones and Teague are both sick. But Mooney is a Mahoning Valley All Star team remember?! LOL

The "botched" call which you speak of was the "CORRECT" call. It might have taken the refs awhile to get it right but in the end they did. No matter. Ursuline was up 8-0 at that point with the ball. All Mooney did was put up 21 unanswered points before halftime. The one good thing about that game was it taught the Mooney coaching staff to quit taking their foot off the gas at halftime.
