When we first got Max, we had already had another dog for a while - Brownleg, who we eventually had to put down also at 16 years of age. After we put him down, my parents found two stray black labs at the local high school. After advertising and trying to find the owner for months, they eventually kept them and gave one to another dog-loving family. The black lab we kept, Mo, is still with my parents, along with Jake, a yellow lab which they acquired a few years ago when the owner went to jail or something. My parents have had 2-3 dogs at all times for as long as I can remember since getting Max, so they have other dogs to comfort them.

As for me, I live on my own right now and don't have the time/steady lifestyle to own and take care of a pet with all the traveling I do for sports, seeing the girlfriend, etc. But if/when we get married and live together, we WILL have at least a dog or two. We both are dog-lovers and will definitely go that route (she wants a cat, but I say no way!).

Surprised you named your dog Max. I figured you would name a pet "Titan" or something. :)
