Terry Tate's sarcastic post is dead on why one should care about the owners. Mike Brown is one of the bottom five owners in all of sport. He is pig-headed, refuses to listen to advice from former players/owners, refuses to hire a GM and has a 3-4 man scouting department. Carson Palmer has proven you can't even pay players to go there.

Meanwhile, players are begging to play for owners like the Rooneys, Bob Kraft, et al.

Most Browns fans are gonna hate on the Steelers/Rooney's but even you guys should give them their due. Failing to do so proves that you lack any shred of objectivity.

Also, who was one of the owners who voted against Modell moving the team to Baltimore?

I didn't question that they have a great business model. In fact, they probably set the standard but they are hypocrites with this "class organization" bullshit they and their fans are trying to pass off on people. No question their business model is great.

I think they do the best they can to keep it as "classy" as possible but they're not dumb. You don't just dump franchise players. Some players are expendable while others aren't. This is, after all (and as you mentioned), a business.

Completely understood but I don't want to hear that "class" bullshit from their fans and the media when it's not true.

I'll give em' their due for being successful but it's not like they're any different from any other organization when it comes to malcontents. In fact, for all of the shit Bengals fans had to take during their run of "misfits", Pittsburgh has been worse over the last few years. The Browns are no angels either but the media has portrayed this "chaste/pure" Pittsburgh organization when it's a fallacy.

They are definitely hypocrites, but I can respect the fact they were one of the only organizations that voted for the Browns to stay when the scumbag Art Modell wanted to move.

I don't think the media covers the Steelers as favorably as you make it sound. At least not the players. Ben's name got ran through the mud due to his horrible judgement (and rightfully so). I think the Rooney's are "classy" and attempt to keep their franchise as clean as possible but in a billion dollar industry such as the NFL....you can keep it only so classy and clean.

The Rooneys definitely have a good business model and should be credited for wanting to keep the Browns in Cleveland. I will say though that their credibility took a hit in my opinion in how they treated Santonio Holmes compared to how they treated Roethlisberger.

Franchise QB (rare....and already signed to a long term contract) > Very good WR (not rare.....and would have ended up being a FA the following offseason)

Made perfect sense from a business standpoint IMO. A tumultuous offseason for Pittsburgh and somebody had to go bye-bye.......and it was the expendable one who they were going to lose regardless because they would not have paid him big $$$. Now, I do think that they would have kept Holmes for the last year of his deal if all of the Ben stuff had not happened prior.

Just kind of a poor way to end things with someone who was pretty vital to them winning a Super Bowl. I agree that QB is more important than receiver, and that they probably wouldn't have paid Holmes since it's not really their style. In reality, it was a better move for Holmes as he'll probably get a big payday from the Jets and still contend for Super Bowls.

I just recall the Steelers comments on why they released or traded Holmes. It was something to do with not representing the steelers or the organization in a positive light, hold their players to higher pedestal etc.... Obv as pointed out by other posters, wasn't the case with Ben. Thats the real issue I take, I understand why completely, but its still hypocritical. Plus then you factor in race, etc.. and it doesnt paint the org in a positive light IMO. I dont think they got enough coverage from the media on that angle.

My "hypocritical" comments actually revert back to the Cedrick Wilson/James Harrison situation. Granted, Wilson was a two time offender but BOTH beat their girlfriend's. Wilson gets cut, Harrison gets "anger management" and a fat new contract. This happened, I believe, at essentially the same time.

Oh great point, I completely forgot about that. I know its the nature of the business but I take offense to the media coverage of the organization. Praise them for winning, not being a "classy" organization.

I love it in Green Bay. Thought about moving there, found a house and a job there...just didn't figure I could actually enjoy living there outside of the NFL season.

I believe going to Green Bay and catching a game in Lambeau is a MUST for any fan.
