Kobe and Garnett tie the record with 9 times on the 1st Team. Only NBA Head coaches vote on this, and you can't vote for your own players, so its quite an honor.

Can't wait to see him "locking someone down" in the WCF.

I can't remember who it was that tried to tell me Russell Westbrook was a better defender than Rondo, but Rondo is without question one of the top 3 all-around point guards in the league. This is the second straight year he had the second highest vote count.

Rondo and Paul are the top 2 defending PGs IMO

Nevermind, found the thread.
hoops23;738857 wrote:The only PG who is right there with Westbrook is Rose.

Rose is the main guy on his team, but he doesn't have a Durant on his team either. Westbrook lead OKC while Durant was injured earlier in the year and he's a more complete PG than Rose.

He's the best defensive PG, best rebounding PG, he's just as good of a scorer as Rose and he's a bit better at getting his team involved.
GOONx19;738997 wrote:I would argue that Rondo is better defensively and as a rebounder. He's second in the league in steals, can guard a much wider range of players, and averages 11.4% of Boston's rebounds, to Westbrook's 10.7%. He's also a much better passer.
hoops23;739846 wrote:No, just no.

Sorry, Rondo is not in the discussion. It's Rose and Westbrook vs everybody else..

Rondo is a very good defender and rebounder, but he's not better than Westbrook.
GOONx19;739906 wrote:How can you say he's not in the discussion? I agree Rose is best. But Rondo is without a doubt a better defensive player than Westbrook. TWENTY-THREE of the the head coaches in the NBA voted him as the best defensive guard in the league last year, and four voted him to second team. Westbrook only got three second place votes, zero first.
sleeper;740039 wrote:LOL what? I'm not a Celtics fan, but Rondo is easily in the discussion behind Rose right now. Westbrook is a great player and top 5, but I don't even have him above CP3 or DW. He's 5th.

Rondo is a good player and an elite PG, but he's not a top 3 PG. He has been a liability on offense for the Celtics, and yes prior to the injury.

I will say Rondo is the best PG for the current Boston team, but he's not top 3 overall.

You're seriously an IDIOT if you think that it's unquestionable that Rondo is a top 3 PG. Get those Blue and White glasses off. At least acknowledge it's questionable, which is very much so is.

1. CP3 (doesn't need explained, but he proved it against Lakers)
2. D-Will (2nd team all NBA last year, didn't get worse)
3. Rose (league MVP)

And I'd argue Westbrook is a better overall player due to his offensive ability than Rondo. It's not like Westbrook can't guard or rebound, but it is true that Rondo can't score from beyond 13 feet.

I wouldn't use the Lakers as a your #1 point. JJ Barea abused the Laker guards. Also the keywords are "all around" pg. Rondo is near the top when you take everything into consideration.

You can be the best all around player at something without being the best. Jack of all trades, master of none (though Rondo is a master of D and reb, and passing).

He's not a jack of scoring. He's a very below average scorer. In a competition judging all around talent, I'm sorry, but the inability to score eliminates Rondo.

JJ Barea had Dirk Nowitzki and Jason Terry as scoring options. Hornets had who? Paul had to single handedly keep them in the series and he did. If you're trying to discredit Paul's dominance against the Lakers you're insane.

Also, give me reasons why Rondo is better than Cp3, D-Will, or Rose? It's easy to just discredit what I say, let's see you back up why Rondo is a top 3 overall PG (I'm looking at you Goon).

Very objective analysis, and uhm, Rondo isn't top 3.

When floor impact counter is adjusted for 40 minutes, Rondo goes from #4 to #5.

These are usually based "more" on career than single season. I dont see how Garnett is on this first team.

He isnt better. But I think he is the more well rounded PG. If you put them all in a skills competition, and defense, rebounding, passing, and scoring were all judged. Rondo would probably come out on top.

Again, that doesnt make him the best. He is not a better player than some others, because scoring is more valuable than some other things out of a PG. But he can easily be considered the most well rounded PG.

How??? He can't score. That is a crucial element to being well rounded: scoring, passing, rebounding, defense. If someone doesn't have one of those attributes how can you say he's the all around best?

If this was a who is the best rebounding, passing, and defensive point guard, it's Rondo by a significant margin. But scoring ability is more crucial out of a PG than rebounding or defense, because there's always bigs to help rebound or play help defense.

IF Rondo could actually score, I think Boston would be almost unbeatable and they'd be up 3-1 on Miami instead of down. But when you can basically leave Rondo by himself outside of 13 feet, in a playoff game, because he can't hurt you from there, that's frigging pathetic.

People have already explained why he's a great ALL-AROUND point guard. It wasn't meant to imply he was top 3 OVERALL, though he very well may be. It's not always a point guard's job to score.

Anyway, to answer your question, Rondo is not better than Derrick Rose or Chris Paul.

But Rondo is better than Deron Williams because among point guards:

Williams is 3rd in assists, to Rondo's 2nd.
Williams is 10th in rebounds, to Rondo's 5th.
Williams is 13th in steals, to Rondo's 2nd.
Williams is 3rd worst in turnovers, to Rondo's 5th.
Williams is 17th in FG%, to Rondo's 6th.

The two things Williams are better at are 3 point percentage and scoring. Williams averages 9 points more per game, but shoots 5 more shots per game, including 4 more threes.
