Well,
Votto needs a day off..he had a bad series against Chicago. Hernandez is his backup at first, so that puts him there. Hanigan is his backup (kinda..more like, they split time) at C, so he goes there.
Gomes is starting to lose PT, and Lewis has done quite well since he's been up.
Valaika did hit a triple off Wandy Rodriguez last week, the reds only hit against him. He gets another start at 3rd.

I understand the reasoning. But when you read the lineup.. You think it's 5 years old when they sucked.

I applaud Stubbs going for Pence's ball. With two outs he's trying to save pitches, and they'll still need another hit to convert a run. However, it needs to be a better chance for an out than that to go after it!

Good try by BP on the "take the arm away" trick at 2nd. But a better play by Barmes to go hard after the ball from the get-go and throw him out. A slide-to-plant by Barmes would have got the ball back a little quicker, but he got it there quick enough, and Hall stayed with the tag nicely and wasn't snookered by BP.

Good play by Wood to hang up Hall and run at him, just to his left, to make him go back to 2nd, but he un-did part of that by throwing it to the 2B bag too quick, and almost allowed the batter to take 2nd.
