Generally I like playing scrabble. I prefer to play this in the company of guests or friends. When all hands are at the table.
Words with friends however is the bane of my existence at the moment.
I am sick of people playing slop words on me in this game, simply throwing words on the board and hoping they stick. I feel there is little intellectual work involved by players when they just put letters up and hope it makes a word.
In my latest game a "friend" (soon to be former) played these nuggets
-toit
-gip
-genoa
-froe
There is no way on God's green earth that this simpleton is familiar with northern english slang (which I thought was against the game's rules), nautical terms, or antique farm equipment from the 17th century.
Persons who play words like this in scrabble or wwf are charlatans, or downright cheaters.

Ha, you should see my next door neighbor's playing Scrabble. They're both retired teachers and in the summer they play on their back patio. Often things get very heated over there.

I love this game, my girl and I play against each other all day to kill time away at work. We both do this, if it makes a word so be it, it scores!!!!

Ehh i dont mind people doing that. I do get annoyed when people take hours for every move and 1 game takes 3 days.

I enjoy adding an S to the end of a word which connects two words together, then I get like 50pts for it!!

The days thing is worrisome as well. I don't know if WWF has an auto resign, scrabble app for iphone does where if you go 48 hours before playing it auto resigns.
Yeah I am a sore loser I suppose. But I would compare it to losing to someone in pool who beat you with slop. No real skill to it, dumb luck more often then not.

That sounds like fun, I would definitely join in. Being in education myself I can take intellectual pursuits a bit too serious.

So help me understand. You choose to play against people you obviously find intellectually inferior...because it is satisfying to beat them? But then you crybaby when the idiot outsmarts you because you only played them to get an easy win in the first place?

Only because I don't feel like typing a winded response, I am just going to say sure. Yes, I am crying because I am getting out smarted.
My argument centers on what you call out-smarting. What you call out-smarting, I call slop.

To each his own.

The funny part of his first post is how he scoffs at this friend for using these esoteric words but acts like he actually knew them himself.

I get that. I just wonder why you pick such inferior competition. Does it make you feel good to prove you are smarter than....dumb people? Why not play someone smarter so "slop" isn't an issue? Would you just not have any excuses to lose then?

I didn't act like I knew them, I was sharing my newly learned words courtesy of Dan May.
I don't think he'll mind playing any of you, in spite of his slop and win at all cost approach, I am confident he would handle most everyone on this board.

I downloaded the game a week or so ago. I will get there eventually, the invites I get are from facebook friends or twitter users. I don't really know if there is a list of screen names you can select or rankings on wwf. Otherwise you simply hit open match, and you run into the same issue. I have since asked players if they want to play a no slop game, or when you use the word that is unfamiliar provide a quick definition as defense. Then it is mutually agreed to accept the word after defense.

Are you playing on iphone or android?
If android, download wordsmith.... if you make 3 wrong guesses on a word on a turn, you lose your turn and pass to your opponent.
You can also play 4 different players on 1 scrabble board. It's being developed for iphone as we type......
Swyped from my HTC Evo with Eternal Prophecy 5.5 ROM.

Whatever works for you I guess. Just sounds like kind of a drag to me.
