Well I would never name him after me because I have the same name as my father and my grand father... I have received my dad's medical bills, an accident my dad was in went on my record and was unable to have the situation rectified, my credit was ruined because they sent bills to my grandfathers address by some crazy idea and my grandmother just threw them away because she thought they were for my deceased grandfather... It goes on and on. I actually got the name Addison from the band Addison Steel.

I'm not a fan of any of the names on the girls side and only a few on the guys side.

Addison is actually a boys name (son of Adam) but over the last few decades more people have begun using it as a girls name, just like Aubrey.

I'm quite glad to say my name (Shannon) will never be on the top 10 list, especially as a male. Good ole Gaelic names. :)

Damn it! I should have checked before I picked a name. I've always liked the name Mia. I thought I was safe with that one since I don't know anyone with that name.

Names often start out being associated with gender but often switch over time. For example, the name Leslie was historically a man's name; however, after the 1950's it became a woman's name. That's why it would be hard to find a Leslie anymore who is under 40 (unless they were named after their father or grandfather). You just simply do not go back once the name get tagged to the other gender.

"parents want their kid's name to stand out, while kids just want to fit in."

Agree 100%, I have no idea why people go apeshit about rationality when they have a kid. I don't care as much about the names du jour as much as spelling names wrong to make their kid "special." We have friends than named their kids "Derik", "Brien" and my personal favorite, "Rachl" (no kidding, I guess they hate vowels).

I hate all of 'en' names. Kaden, Jayden, Aiden, Brayden. Terrible names.

HAHA.... my sister named her oldest Izabel. When I heard this I asked her what she was going to do when my niece wanted to put a personalized license plate on the back of her bicycle?? :D

I have a cousin whose name is Shannon (male) and his sisters name is Ryan. They were going to "switch" their names legally when they turned 18 but decided to they've went that far in life with them, to keep them the way they were.

Someone went deep enough.
I didn't care for most of those names.

My wife and I have talked about baby names, she had some picked out since she was like 12 -- I shot all of them down. I can't remember the names she liked, I think one was Asher or something like that.

My family has a history of using less than popular names. I will probably follow suit with my kids' names, wifey and I talked about going back to my family's heritage and getting some traditional Slovakian names. I believe my granddad would've liked it, he was full-blooded. We are going to try to not go COMPLETELY off-the-wall with them though, like "Jozef" or other more recognizable names.

A couple that I know just named their newborn girl, Mattingly (after Don Mattingly which is the mother's favorite athlete). How fucking stupid is that? Their son's name is Jet. Equally as stupid IMO.

Mattingly reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George states he wants to name his kid "7" (as in Mickey Mantle), only to have someone steal it.

John Travolta and his wife named their kid Jet. I agree it is a stupid name.
