The student was 18 years old. What does the OC think of the sticky situation she is in?An Olmsted Falls High School teacher, who resigned last month, has been indicted on felony charges for having sexual relations with an 18-year-old male student.
The Cuyahoga County Grand Jury charged Kristin Ostmann, 25, of Medina, with four courts of sexual battery. Each count carries a maximum of five years in jail.
According to the Cuyahoga County Prosecutor’s Office, Ostmann, a science teacher, obtained a room at the Red Roof Inn in Middleburg Heights on four occasions — Feb. 18, 19, 25 and March 4.
A concerned parent brought the relationship to the attention of school officials on April 8. The district immediately launched an investigation.
Ostmann, who is in her first year with the district, was told to stay home during the investigation. She resigned on April 13.
Olmsted Township police met with school officials April 13. Police Chief John Minek said the school district did an “excellent” job in its investigation into the allegations.
“We then followed up with a criminal investigation that led to the indictment,” Minek said.
As required, school Superintendent Todd F. Hoadley notified the Ohio Department of Education and Olmsted Falls High School Principal Bob Hill contacted Cuyahoga County Children and Family Services.
District officials notified staff and parents about the investigation and the teacher’s resignation.
Ostmann will be arraigned at 8:30 a.m. May 13 in the Cuyahoga County Justice Center, 1200 Ontario St., Cleveland.
