I don't know about rules, but I do know that we damaged the crown on the statue of liberty outside the courthouse here playing wiffle ball. Anyone ever go to the Ironton court house and see if the statue has a bent crown, that's us. They might of fixed it, but knowing this city I doubt it. Good times.

Speaking of kids games we used to play, what the hell happened to flashlight tag? I remember running all over the damn town playing that after dark. We seriously need to have a first annual chatter kids game day or something.

As long as they didn't take my priceless Hank Aaron card I have secured in my spokes with a clothes pin, I am good to ride home.

It's not a huge statue, maybe 10 feet tall if that. I swear, the crown on that thing was made of the lightest metal possible. Just hit them with the ball and they'd bend.

At times, we also played that right field was dead-meaning if you hit it to right field, you were out.

played ghost runners all the time; hated the pitchers hand rule.

Ground rules always got interesting with a playing field stretching over 2-3 backyards at a time

We used to play wiffle ball all the time. More times than not we had to use a tennis ball because the wiffle ball only last a couple innings. I lived in a cul-de-sac, in order to hit a HR to centerfield you had to hit our neighbors house. That guy used to get pretty pissed

Played pitchers hand, pitchers mound and ghost runners, also depending on how many people we had, played left field/right field out depending on which way you batted.

What about "Pickle?"

The game where there are two bases, two people with gloves on, and however many runners you have? The gloved players just throw the ball back and forth and try to tag the runners.

I used to call it something else, but I forget the name. That's basically the game I grew up playing. I wasn't a big wiffleball fan, still ain't. I'd much rather play Pickle.

We never played pitchers hand. That was just one less opportunity to make someone cry after drilling them w/ the ball.

Hot box?

We used to play whiffleball all the time. Sometimes stepped it up to a whiffleball bat and a tennis ball, when we had the "big yard" to play in. And then in high school a group of about 15-20 of use would get together and play real ball at the park 2-3 times a week in the spring/summer.

haha we always used ghost runners. My neighbor drove a bus and it was always parked at the end of our yard like it was a fence. Playing baseball over the bus was a HR but hit the bus and it was an out.

Now that I know what "pitchers hand" is I can say we didn't use it. We just pegged the runner with the ball, as mentioned.

Eventually we graduated from wiffle ball to a game that utilized a ball about the size of a softball but was made out of a softer material. You could snap off some ridiculous curves/sliders with that thing and it hurt a lot more when you pegged them. I can't remember what the name of that ball was called but I could throw a slider like Bert Blyleven with that sucker.
