EV gives up a lead-off walk, SB, and single for an RBI before he gets an out, then a K, walk, and DP for a one run deficit as they come up to bat against Johnson, so that one run is big against the pitcher who hasn't given up a hit in any of the first three innings of any start this year. But Votto just breaks that streak with a 2 out single.

Johnson's BA against in the first three innings this year goes from 0.000 to 0.040 as Votto as Phillips gets a good hit on the hit and run for two on and two out. Gomes then gets shafted by the ump as he calls a strike on a 2-1 slider that was off the plate and that takes away the hitters advantage and then he throws a fastball in the same location and Gomes K's.
