If the search function sucks on here it sucks on every single forum using the same software, which is a majority of them.

I dont know what software other forums use but I know this site's search is the worst of the 3 main messageboards I post on, BY FAR. I've pmed you about this is the past but you chose to ignore it. The site's search function is basically worthless.

Um ... it functions like any other vBulletin 4.0 board. Admittedly, I'm only on four boards regularly, but they're all vBulletin. What is it that sucks so much about the search function? I'm curious, as perhaps I'm missing out.

Really? Worthless?

I put in a term to search and it gives me a list of threads with that term. What else is it supposed to do? What features is it missing compared to the others?

Most sites also offer the ability to show posts instead of having to dig through an entire thread. Even when I search for an EXACT phrase that I know I have said or someone has said, it fails to find it. I was trying to create a one year anniversary thread and searchign for exact posts that I made, or pwns that someone else made using the search function was worthless. I go to another forum I frequent, type in the posters name, click show posts, and the 3 word phrase I was looking for and bam found the 2 yr old post in about .23 sec.

Some of this could be due to the switch, not sure, but I still had difficulty finding posts from 2 months ago.

It sucks when you make a search with the phrase, the search feature doesn't take you to those keywords or phrases, it just leads you to the thread. If the thread is 50 pages long, you have to search through all those pages to find the post/phrase/keyword.

You can toggle searching by thread and by post ... same as any other vBulletin thread ... thus eliminating the need to scan the topic to find the post you're looking for.
