In hockey, it would be tough for a southern team to have more knowledgeble fans than Canadien teams or teams from up north, unless they've had a lot of success to keep fans interested for awhile.
Nice back pedaling. I would do the same thing if i made an idiotic statement and it was thrown back in my face.

I didn't say it was all determined on one game or one season. You don't think Detroit Red Wings fans are more knowledgeable than Florida Panthers fans? Not every person but overall they definitely have more fans who have followed the sport because their team has been in the playoffs and they've kept them interested. Overall, over time that creates a more knowledgeable fan base.

No they are not more knowledgeable, but it's not because of your idiotic theory. Of course a team from a state that is known for Hockey is going to have more knowledgable fans than a hockey team in a warm weather city lol. Your point was Steelers fans are more knowledgable, because they have been more successful lately, which was completely idiotic. The majority of those Cleveland fans, are also fans of OSU football, which if you haven't noticed they are pretty good. Those same cleveland fans, also live in a state where you can find the one of the best if not the best HS football in the country. So are those fans not knowledgeable either? You cop out Steubenville/Youngstown guys should know better, there is some pretty good in that area. Just admit your theory was stupid. Until that happens, it will come back to bite you in the ass.

I'd say Red Wings fans are more knowledgeable/into it than Panthers fans in general. I'd also say the stupid thing about what Non said was that it was directed towards a HISTORICALLY strong football franchise that's been going through a couple decades of badness. Regardless of how the Browns are now, it doesn't erase that they were a great franchise that was amazingly successful for a period of time -- the sort of thing that gets people passionate about a team. Some teams simply have larger/more passionate fanbases than others. Success (whether recent or past) is likely part of that. It's hard to find a Florida team with a legit "true" following. So many people there are transplants, who are likely more interested in following their team than getting into the new hometown's one.
As for tonight, it's fitting they bowed out with another failed power play. Story of the series. They got manhandled in games 2 and 5, but if they'd converted on a reasonable percent of PPs, they'd have won tonight definitely and possibly not even had to worry about today because they took 6. Kudos to the effort without Crosby and Malkin. Really shows the difference between regular season and postseason. They were pretty hot down the stretch against teams out of the mix, but when push came to shove in an elimination series, they just didn't have the offensive manpower to outlast another good team over seven games.

Its been proven over and over that you're not the sharpest knife in the drawer. So I'll take your comments, along with like_thats, with a tiny grain of salt.
Bottom line..you ran your mouth nonstop and all your teams went down in the end. So just keep it hush hush about the Steelers. lol
Its not the end of the world....it could be much worse. You could be a Cleveland fan. Hell....these dickbags don't have SHIT to look forward to. They get their shits and giggles over other teams failures....just be thankful it isn't you.

You're kind of getting the point here, finally. Some of it does have to do with location. Some of it is tradition, success, etc. There are many factors.
I realize it's not something you can really calculate but just being around and observing the sports world you know that some fans bases are more knowledgeable than others, as a whole.
Kentucky basketball, Ohio State football, etc. The fans are following the recruiting around the clock and more fans of those teams are going to watch the sport all the time to keep up on the rest of the country. And they know the history. Indiana football isn't going to have as many of those nerdy gurus as OSU football.
I agree with what you and heretic are saying that the Browns have been around awhile and they have a lot of tradition. That makes them a much more knowledgeable fan base for how poor they've been in recent years. And just being from Ohio where football has always been a big deal. All fair points. Browns fans are more knowledgeable than a lot of NFL fan bases, even a team like the Saints who just won recently, but not Pittsburgh.

--Was at the game last night and I gotta say, the atmosphere before the game was electric. I've never heard it so loud at a game...you couldn't even hear the PA announcer or music.
--I said in the other thread, even though the Pens were up 3-1, if the PP didn't improve, the Pens had a very real chance of losing this series. Unfortunately this was a true statement.
--Bylsma taking a lot of heat in the arena and on the call in after the game for not having Kovy out there on that 6 on 4. In some regards I agree, he had a good 1st period however after watching Kovy in the 3rd period he seemed slow and disinterested. Now that the Pens lost in the 1st round, all he's going to cost the team is a 7th round pick. I was in favor at the time of the deal but this one just didn't pan out.
--As disappointing as the end of the season was, it was still an incredible season considering losing Crosby for half a season, Malkin for half a season, Staal for half a season and basically Fleury for the first month of the season considering how bad he was early. Plus opening a beautiful facility in the CEC.
--Some interesting decisions regarding free agents next year.
