Volquez vs McClellan

I really wish St. Louis was a little closer to Cincinnati. I would've made the trip out there for this series. It should be a doozy.

It's really not that bad of a drive, especially if you would stay for the whole series. 70 the whole way. I went to STL a few years ago for a Braves series.

If VOlquez can get through the first unscathed the redlegs may have a shot.

I'm interested to see what their outfield looks like in action. They have the chance to be epicly bad on defense.

Hell, even if Janish gets thrown at I'd still put one in Pujols' ear.

Is this the night Volquez pitches a scoreless 1st inning?

I'm not sure Edinson will be able to locate his fastball could enough to retaliate haha

I'm not real sure how "for real" the Cardinals are this year. Everything about their team is so top heavy. They have two of the better hitters in baseball (Pujols & Holliday), plus they have Rasmus and then they have 2 very good starters (Carpenter and Garcia) but then a lot of moving parts in the rest of the lineup and pitching staffs.

Berkman can't be for real. His career appeared to be finished a year and a half ago. And guys like Kyle McClelland can't be as good as his stats suggest, can he?

I think this series hinges on what Berkman does. Pujols wil get his hits and RBI's and then ya need to limit everyone else.

Going into last year Berkman was a .327 hitters vs the reds with 48 dongs and 133 Ribbies in 143 games. Almost like in hoops...the star is gonna get his points...gotta make sure you control everyon else

Scotty Rolen needs to have a good series...he's been in a bit of a slump early on. I think I can see some words being tossed around towards each other tonight, possibly a couple hit batters. Maybe BP should lead the game off and tap Yadier Molina before he gets in the box.

I was surprised to see McClelland was 2-0 with a very good ERA in his first year as a starter. Against Pittsburgh, he was solid (gave up two first inning runs and then wound up with a 6IP, 2ER line), but the Pirates ALWAYS seem to inexplicably struggle against marginal guys like you'd expect a converted middle reliever to be, so I just figured that he'd come back to earth immediately after that start.

Not necessarily a bad thing. He's been pretty awful as of late.

Seems like he's been doing nothing but popping up lately. A few days rest will be good for him.

Lambert Field (KSTL) reported a tornado on the ground from the control tower, but that's 6 or so miles away from the stadium. Should be able to play once it blows through.
