Votto doesn't look like he is seeing the ball well today. 1 day in 161, I'd take that.

Great play by Walker to get Bruce, a victim of the circumstance and natural inclination!

I think I'd have rather had Hanigan take a shot at the 3-0 pitch for a win, rather than what happens in Stubbs AB!

Beautiful way to get the day rolling! Even if it was kinda a crazy, ugly game, the Pirates won and all is right in the world.

Listened to it on the radio. Sounded like a very strange game with both teams making stupid mistakes, but as a Pirate fan I'll take the win. Go for the series tomorrow!! No matter what happens tomorrow, with at least 2 wins in Cincy, this series is a success for the Bucs.

Nice win. Held on for dear life.

The Pirates were really flat offensively in the two games against the Brewers but other than that they've looked like a much more competitive outfit than usual. At least like a major league team, which hasn't always been the case.

Well, the Reds got swept early by the Pirates last year then beat the shit out of them the rest of the year.

Good news is Bailey, Cueto, and Willis are looking great in AAA. Cueto's line wasn't as impressive as the other 2 but it appears he was throwing well. Adding those 3 should really strengthen the staff.

Stubbs hit it pretty hard..but he took Hanrahan off the hook. The Pirates closer was wild much of the inning and just launched 2 balls over the catcher's head. Bases loaded, 2-0 count....Stubbs should fake bunt, take....whatever. No doubt he gets teh same pitch on 2-1 as he gets 2-0 with Hanrahan's difficulty throwing strikes and a walk is a tie game.

This all being said......Volquez has to be better early.

Should have stabbed him in the face when I met him last year...

Very much so. They've only had a couple truly bad losses (and also had a couple decisive wins to balance those out) and are near .500 15 games into the year. They showed guts today, fighting off a personnel-superior team that kept erasing deficits. It took a couple big defensive plays to keep them off the scoreboard when it counted in the final innings.

True. Reds no question are more talented, more firepower, etc. I like how the Pirates have competed in this series. Even the game Saturday was tight until the grand slam in the 5th broke it open.

Willis is really going to need to turn some heads to get a spot on the team. He isn't on the 40 man roster, so somebody will need to go away before he can join the team...

Unless there is an injury to a current outfielder Fred Lewis will probably be cut once his rehab is up next month, clearing a 40man spot. Other options would be DRH or Fisher, I'd say Fisher is more likely since Valiquette and Joseph aren't really ready to be MLB LH relievers yet. DRH is basically around as an insurance policy to Bray/Willis/Chapman. Once Joseph or Valiquette start to dominate Louisville DRH will be out the door.
