My wife wants my iPhone and it works out that i'm eligible for an upgrade so my thought is to get myself a new phone and give my wife the iPhone. My current iPhone is a 3G. This is through ATT by the way.

Here is the list of phones i'm looking at:
iPhone 3GS. It's 49 bucks and i don't lose any of my apps.
iPhone 4. My concern is, is it really worth $199.
HTC Inspire. It's $69 has 4G capability (not that it will matter). My biggest concern is losing my apps. But more than that, is the phone worth a damn?

What are some of the experts on here thinking I should go with?

I love HTC phones....

But if you decide on staying with an Iphone, I would def go to the Iphone4. If you don't..it would be one of those situations where you regret it later.

the CNET review of the HTC Inspire is pretty favorable. I'm likely leaning toward that.

I'm also curious why you think i should go iPhon 4 vs the 3GS? as far as i know, the only differences are face time and starage space. I'm not concerned about having 16 GB vs 8, and i don't know anyone that has used the face time with favorable reviews.

HTC will be able to do much of the things that the IPhone does....but you will have to relearn how to do it.

If you like the iphone....go with the iphone 4.
Our engineer told us that the IPhone is easy enough for everyone........and the droid phones are for techno gees to learn and use!

yeah, not much difference...but I always regret it when I try to save a couple bucks with last years model. Just a personal thing I guess.

I don't know much about this, but a buddy of mine was telling me that he got a Thunderbolt(Htc) and he was ok with it because a lot of his apps from his Ipad were universal....so I am guessing he could transfer them.

Wrong, two different app stores.... Apple apps and android apps, totally different. They have alot of same apps but your not able to transfer them.... If you bought apps, you'll have to buy them again for android.

I am a fan of HTC phones but have you checked out the Moto Atrix? Also, if AT&T would finally get the Nexus S, I would take a hard look at that.

Waiting until July for the iPhone 5 should be an option.

Even with my upgrade the attic is like 200 bucks. No thanks.

I was in your predicament about a couple weeks ago. Actually, it was the exact same situation, and I decided to go with the Inspire. It had favorable ratings, and at such a low price compared to an iPhone4 (I'm a college student, so cash is tight), it was basically a no brainer for me. However, it all comes down to your individual preference. I enjoy the Inspire as it has a larger screen which is excellent to watch videos. In addition, I preferred Droid to Apple OS, so that played a large part in the decision for me. The Inspire is definitely worth the money, and it's a very good phone.

Outside of games, most apps for Android are free or very inexpensive.

If I were going with AT&T, I'd get the Atrix. I definitely wouldn't get the IPhone 4 at this stage of the game with the IPhone 5 just around the corner, although rumors are that is being delayed until late Q3, possibly even Q4. But dual core and HSPA+ should dramatically improve the browser/surfing experience, which is probably important to you if you, ahem, download porn.

The Atrix has HDMI out, so you can output your porn to a larger LCD monitor or even a tv.

Don't wait on an iPhone 5. If Apple's history is any indication, this year's iPhone will have very little changes over the iPhone 4 (similar to the way they handled the iPhone 3g, and then the iPhone 3gs).

Little insider tip...the Atrix is going to be $99 at Best Buy from today until the end of the month. Do yourself a favor and get that. You may not think you need a dual core processor or 1gb of RAM in your phone right now, and that the Inspire will work for you. But a year from now, you'll regret "upgrading" to a phone that is already out of date. With Best Buy dropping the price to $99, there should be no reason why you pick the Inspire over the Atrix.

Sherm what's the latest you have heard on the Bionic? I've seen a few sites that have said it could be out early May?

Sorry to hijack the thread...

Won't be early May. I don't have an exact date yet, but I'd guess late May/early June for the Bionic.

Yeah I can't wait until my blackberry with a cracked screen can be set on a tee and I can take my driver to it. Hopefully vzw holds off on tiered data plans until after Bionic is released.
