And yes, credibility does mean something to people on a forum. It actually helps promote and grow the forum. People without credibility (i.e. trolls) are the ones that bring it down. So how is credibility a bad thing? If a place is seen as having some credible posters worth reading than more people will visit. If a forum is just full of internet persona jackasses (they might be good people in real life) such as sleeper, art, like that, capone then people might be pushed away... for example BR.

So which is it, you want to get rid of trolls, or ou want to enforce bets just because you can?

Also, another reason for not enforcing. With these bets, there really is no injury, so no injustice is done other than someone breaking their word.

And to explain my commend about if you're not here to moderate. It just goes to why are you a moderator? I am a moderator because I want to try to help keep this website from getting too much like JJ but also at the same time develop standards and rules that keep it from being a free for all. That's why I love the basement/trolling distinction made by Art. And part of being a moderator is actually enforcing the rules... someone has to do it.

I'm split on whether we should enforce bets at all as it has nothing to do with my reasons for modding. I think bets are fun and add positive things, but they also have downsides of enforcing.

Honestly, I think this is something that we should leave up to the community as a whole on whether we should enforce or not. In the spirit of being honorable and a persons word meaning something I am leaning slightly towards we should enforce. But if people don't want that, that's fine.

When do I not moderate within the rules of the forums? Stop implying blanket accusations with no merit behind them like sleeper, likethat, capone. And don't play "I didn't say that" as it is easy to see what you're implicating.

And where did I say I want to get rid of trolls? I said I support art's idea. I like it because it doesn't just get rid of people but rather give them a place where they can either freely troll and then also interact with more civility in the normal forums, or where they are forced to troll because they don't know how to interact in the normal forums.

There is a difference between reasonable implications and making up fallacies. Inferences are fine and all... but they have to actually be there.

I don't think we should be enforcing any bets, even ban bets, unless the to-be-banned poster PM's justin and requests the ban.

For a normal poster I agree. There are a small percentage of members that I just don't give a fuck about...sleeper falls in that small percentage.
