TITS are bouncing back in British gardens, a survey reveals
Sightings of the much-loved birds leapt, with blue tits up 22 per cent and great tits rising 12 per cent.
Coal tits have increased by 24 per cent, while the number of long-tailed tits soared 32 per cent the past year.
Their comeback follows fears for their future after the long cold snap from October to March in 2009-2010.
Sightings of the goldfinch have more than doubled, according to the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.
A total of 10.2million birds were sighted by 600,000 people taking part in the RSPB's Garden Birdwatch.
Sparrows were the most commonly seen birds for the eighth year in a row - with an average of four per garden. Starlings were second, followed by blackbirds.
RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch co-ordinator Sarah Kelly said: "We were really interested to see how the small birds fared, after such a disastrous last year.
"It appears that many may have had a decent breeding season and have been able to bounce back a little."
