It's funny. The Pirates have won far more series than they've lost, but are only three games above .500 because if they lose a series, it's 3-0, but virtually everyone they've won is 2-1.

They went 4-1 in interleague series, but were 8-7 because they took Boston, Detroit, Toronto and Baltimore 2-1 and lost 3-0 to Cleveland.

Pirates win 7-4 thanks to a 3-run shot by McKenry and Hanrahan once again closing it out.

Team of destiny!

McKenry first career home run, 3-run shot to give the Bucs the 7-4 win.

Could be tied for first.

Damn Reds. If they hadn't have choked in the bottom of the 9th the Pirates would be in a 1st place tie. This had been a season to remember so far.

Good way to start the series. Just need the Reds to do something. Lost 2/3 to the Cards and currently are down 2-0 to Milwaukee. Playing the Astros and Cubs SHOULD be great to give the Pirates momentum, but they need the Reds to play like a contender to get in front of the Brewers and Cards. Especially with their track record against the Brewers and how often they'll play them in July and August.

Almost had first place. Bummer the Brewers rallied.

If the Pirates win and the Brewers lose tonight, the Pirates will be one percentage point above, .528 to .527.

Great video of that home run. Greg Brown went bananas and I love the shot of the players in the dugout celebrating.

That was an interesting inning before the home run.

Trailing 4-3, Matt Diaz drew a walk.

Rarely used Pedro Ciriaco came on to run. Walker hit a perfect double play ball but Ciriaco slid into Castro breaking up the double play. A DP would've been the third out to end the inning.

Then Harrison hit a shallow base hit to center, Walker just made it home in time to tie the game.

Then McKenry crushes one off Marmol on an 0-2 pitch.

The whole sequence in the bottom of the 8th was awesome.

Cutch had a great solo shot as well.

Cubs win 6-3

Correia struggled tonight. Bucs could never recover.

Looks like we'll be two games back.

Hitting has to better, the pitching can't bail them out all the time.

Nice ass-whipping today 9-1 and yet another series win. Good to see the bats come alive. It will be interesting to see who stays and who goes (Presley, d'Arnaud) when those on the disabled list come back after the break.

Cool video. This was their theme song back in 1990. With some of this year's highlights.

It's funny. If they lose a series, it's 3-0. If they win a series, it's 2-1. It's like they save all their blunders for one game in a series.
