Pointing out a rumor that the head coach of your basketball team may leave for a better offer is considered knocking the school??? That's awful journalism if they are "afraid" to report something.

So what if Matt Painter legitimately slept with a shark? Could that be reported? I would think the public and especially the kids on the Purdue basketball team would have a right to know if there coach is repeatedly jumping a mako.

And honestly, the only reason I bring this up is because Matt Painter is almost indistinguishable from a porcupine.

Purdue has a winning record against IU??? Wow, I'd have never guessed that.
If Painter does leave - and who honestly wouldn't for twice the cash, just like Geno Ford just did — Stevens would take the job, imo.
Purdue has to recruit more nationally, like Thad, with a highly rated incoming class with zero in-state players, has.

No way Brad Stevens leaves Butler for Purdue. He is exactly where he wants to be. Going to Final Fours -- pay special attention to the plurality of Fours -- with Butler, where he got his coaching start 11 years ago under Barrier Collier, and on the short list of each of the Super Six blue bloods -- Duke, North Carolina, Indiana, Kentucky, UCLA and Kansas -- for the next time a coaching position opens up. You can take that straight to the vault. He's on every one of those lists and right near the top. And, as others have said, Purdue won't be able to pay Stevens what he's now worth -- which is a lot of damn cash.

Additionally, with the kind of March success Butler has built the past several seasons, Stevens is gaining the respect and attention from elite recruits. See Tyler Zeller, whom Butler almost landed. And Stevens has already proven he can find and develop the top talent that other programs overlook and help turn those players into stars by fitting them perfectly into the "Butler Way," whatever the hell that is. Look at Gordon (an NBA lottery selection), Shelvin Mack (another future NBA player) Matt Howard, Shawn Vanzant, etc. There is no reason to believe Stevens won't be able to continue to challenge for national rankings and Sweet 16s, with a Final Four every once in awhile, until a "dream job" such as IU or Duke opens and comes calling. He's on that sort of path, in my opinion. Why leave for Iowa when you don't have to?

If Brad Stevens takes the job at Purdue, he might as well parachute into the middle of the ocean and drown. Because that's what I think of when I think of Matt Painter. An invisible man, who happens to look like a porcupine.

Spot on. No one in the state gives a flying fuck about purdue athletics, especially basketball.

Purdue has a great big ten history...but to national. Heck, in two years butler has could what purdue has ever accomplished nationally. Not to mention IU in 2002.

Did not even make front page headlines on the Journal and Courier...headline on front page of sports section was JaJuan Johnson making AP All American honors...on the right side of page a small article devoted to story with commentary.

If I'm painter, with basically just Hummel coming back out of your stars and who knows how good he is going to be with 2 knee repairs, I'm leaving now while I'm hot. Maybe not for Mizzou, but I'm testing the waters heavily.

I agree that Stevens is a helluva a coach, but the Bulldogs have also been incredibly fortunate the past two years in the NCAA tournament.Sometimes the ball bounces your way or a call goes your way.That has been the case for Bulldogs the past two years.

Last year, the Bulldogs defeated Murray State by 2 points.(wow). Then they ran into a couple of teams that had lost important players right before the tournament, Syracuse, and during the tournament, Michigan State.

This year, the Bulldogs were extremely fortunate to defeat Old Dominion and defeated Pitt because of one of biggest mental errors in NCAA tournament history.

That being said, he would probably do a great job at a major basketball school. So would many others. There aren't as well known because they haven't had his good fortune.The basketball world would know nothing about Shaka Smart if the tournament had not expanded this year.

Why does anyone in Indiana give a crap about Richmond? You realize U of R is in Richmond, Virginia, not Richmond, Indiana.

lol...sorry, but thats bullshit. Yes, IU is what it is. But no way does Purdue take a back seat to those others. Yes, Butler is getting the recognition now. But that could disappear within a year. Purdue does have some tradition as well as being in a major conference. Purdue basketball is more significant than you and others are making it out to be. Keady had some great teams and Painter has them doing very well. He wouldn't be able to recruit the way he has if there wasn't "something" to Purdue.

but no one respects them. No one cares about Purdue athletics. They do not get serious recognition as Indiana is the favorite team of the state by far. Then ya have fans jump on the bandwagon of Butler, Valpo, Indiana State, etc and do not care about Purdue. Hell their old time coach Gene Kaedy even said it a few times. He said if they had the name Indiana in the college name they would get instant credibility. Maybe they shoulda change it to PurIndianaDue.
Just saying.....been a fan and following Indiana hoops for a L O N G time (live like 10 minutes from Indiana and for years watched and only paid attention to their hoops...even at the HS level as indiana played their HS games on regular TV for well over 20 years now).

And as a fan of neither, I can see things more clearly than being a fan or one or the other. I also grew up not far from the area, watching both play on TV in a regular basis. Was and still am a HUGE Knight fan. Your trying to speak for everyone, when in reality, your speaking for yourself. No offense intended. But Purdue is more relevent then what you think. Yes, IU is king, that I dont' question. But dont' go putting Valpro and even Butler as being more relevent on a regular, consistant or even traditionally. Simply is not true.

The Butler Way is how Coach Hinkle did things...."team above all else". He defined The Butler Way. It stems from the old school core values coaching philosophy that was rooted in humility and serving the team.

Humility - know who we are, strengths and weaknesses
Passion - do not be lukewarm, commit to excellence
Unity - do not divide our house, team first
Servanthood - make teammates better, lead by giving
Thankfulness - learn from every circumstance

The interesting thing is that if you watch Coach Stevens and how he coaches you get a sense that his style and personality truly reflect this. There's something wholesome and good about it. A taste of yesteryear that doesn't include the "look at me" garbage that took over so much of sports. Maybe, just maybe it will catch on and be a trend. One can only hope.

Lol... Heres what I tell folks back home.

It's IU and Notre Dame with Purdue a close second. Purdue actually gets good tv time on Indy televison affiliates and ESPN in Indianapolis, so yes, Purdue does matter a great deal in this state. Aside from the big three it's then broken down about the same as it is in Ohio in terms of fan support. You have in this state ISU, Butler, Ball State, and Valpo...In Ohio it's Ohio U, Miami, Cincinnati, Xavier, Dayton ect...

What I am saying is that, as you agree, IU is the king. Next in the line of national 'talk' and attention usually is with some cinderella in the state. Purdue is an afterthought. Theya re not taken seriously. Kids grow up as IU fans. Indiana hoops player is what they dream of. On national scale just token time is given to Purdue.

Isn't any cinderella the talk of the country, no matter where they are from? LOL VCU, George Mason, etc, etc. Thats the norm, and has nothing to do with anything but it being a top media story. It has NOTHING to do with Purdue being an afterthought, which they clearly are not IMO.
All grow up as IU fans? I guess that excludes guys like Oden, Conley, Thomas and current Big Ten and 1st team All American from Purdue, JaJaun Johnson as well as Robbie Hummel. If I wanted to make an effort, I could probably reel off many other names who have not gone to IU, but other "afterthought" schools. ;)
