Oh, there's no doubt this happens here and at every major D1 school. I struggle to make ends meet in college far more than any player you'll see in the tourney, and some of these kids come into college practically off the streets. You won't find a team in a power conference that doesn't compensate it's players with a weekly allowance.

Actually, I do have room to talk as OSU fired O'Brien and is dealing with Tressel. So ya, its a forum...I can talk. Don't like it, dont' read it.

He does, but he's almost as tall as Knight. That makes him about 6'2 6'3

Also, I don't see anything wrong with Jay-Z. Coach Cal coached for the Nets, and Jay-Z owns part of them. Was during the SAME time? I really don't know.

lol @ this Jay-Z bullshit. Sorry, its all good and fun but doesn't mean jackshit. Most major programs have some kind of celeb hanging around for one reason or another. Big friggin deal.

What? Calipari has WWW. He gets ANYONE in the NBA, almost anyone in the music business, most players in other sports. UK players get to hang out with the biggest stars in a given outlet (sports, music, entertainment) because of Wes. No school, let alone most, get to do that.

And yes, it is a big deal because it is an unfair advantage because of the leverage/influence these guys have on the HS players.

S/O to Coach Shaka Smart, @Skeen21 and VCU on making it to the Final 4. I remember the summer I got drafted into the NBA, coach Smart Worked me out on his 1st day on the job at Akron U as an assistant to my former HS coach Keith Dambrot. Now he's in the Final 4. Yes sir!!!!

Yeah I don't know why its not like Calipari has done anything shady or illegal in the past, they are just picking on him.

Jay Z is a team owner. It's against the rules. If he wasn't an owner I'd say "meh, leave him alone", but of course they are going to investigate.

This doesn't make sense because Calipari isn't being investigated and the NCAA isn't investigating. This is an NBA matter and has nothing to do with Kentucky. So I don't know why you brought up Calipari's shady past, the only one with something at stake would be Jay Z and/or the Nets.

And while I totally agree this is protocol, and I suspect it is ANYTIME an owner or partial owner is involved with amateur athletes. My question is, why is it making headlines and portrayed as a negative? This is a standard investigation that probably occurs behind the scenes EVERY DAY in the NBA. Why does the mainstream media report this one and not the others?

If Michael Jordan flies into Chapel Hill for a game and there are recruits visiting or he comes to a practice to work out, do we have a cover story from the New York Times about it? Nope, in-fact, we don't even hear about it.

I'm not arguing with you guys I'm just playing devil's advocate.

Michael Jordan is the sponsor of North Carolina. Which is why that video circulating of him telling the players he can get them whatever they want(hard to find shoes, etc) is totally legal.

I'm not questioning the legality of it, in this case, Calipari, his players or Kentucky did nothing wrong and aren't in any jeopardy, but the story is still being covered nationally and being presented in a manner that leads people to believe Calipari/Kentucky IS being investigated.

Because whether you want to realize it or not, calipari is seen by many, many outlets as shady and dirty. Anything involving his team will be painted in that light because it will get the ratings and viewers.

I acknowledge this is true, but because so many people tune in, it perpetuates the situation even more and people start to assume "the more we hear about it, the more stories there are going on." It's amazing how just mentioning names and allow things to build and build and build.

I guess that's what comes along with having Calipari as coach.
