I honestly don't believe you mean what you say. You are just being ignorant to get a rise.

It amazes me that people are trying to justify citizens fighting lawlessly in the middle of a public thoroughfare. That is just dangerous to the public needed to be halted by any means necessary.

There must be another video that you guys are watching. I must have missed where the 5'5 125 lb female did anything to warrant getting beat with a stick 6 times then slammed to the pavement by an officer. There is no way that officer will be able to justify his actions to his superiors nor in a court of law.

Who's justifying people fighting lawlessly in public? Please provide evidence of that. No one is disagreeing that these people should have been arrested, but the cop was way too excessive. When employees of the public are not performing up to standard, they should be called out.

When the police arrive they subdue the male that was beating the car and while they do, she steps to the officer and confronts them. At that point it is clear that she was told to step back, she didnt and got whipped. She then came at them again. Got maced. Did I miss anything? If she didnt want the police to own her ass she should of listened.

I would imagine the police interpreted the situation to be fueled by alchohol or other substances and are trained to diffuse the situation quickly. Excellent job in my view.

I had a response typed up but you honestly aren't worth it.

Fight like that in the streets of other countries, I mean civilized modern countries and see what happens. They won't be as nice as American cops I promise you!

No they won't be as nice as American cops, however, most American cops won't respond in that manner that this Savannah officer did.

Yes, let's give cops carte blanche to dole out punishment as they see fit. Sorry, but it'll be interesting to see how this cop is punished. I'm sure you also thought the cops were living up to the standard when Rodney King was beat?

Again, once the girl was sprayed, she was no threat. She was wandering around dazed and probably couldn't see. He then slams her to the ground. Not justified.

So I guess if I run a traffic light or roll through a stop sign I should just expect a cop to beat me. I get it, thanks for your input.

There's a blanket statement if I ever read one. I'm not disagreeing that in some countries they are very excessive, but we are the US, we are better than that.

As I pointed out earlier though it appears 2 - 3 cops respond I can't tell if there is a 3rd and they are out numbered. They come in and lay it down sending a message to the crowd that you better stay back and that is to protect themselves. At the end of the day getting hit with the baton or sprayed with some pepper spray is better than getting shot I would imagine!

I'll have to go with ccrunner on this one. She should not have approached the officer the way that she did.

I think some of you are misunderstanding what I am saying. I am not saying every action by that cop was excessive. Once the young man was on the ground and complying, there was no need to continue hitting him. Hitting the girl and pepper spraying her was fine, she was interfering; but once he grabs her and slams her to the ground, that is excessive.

I wasn't comparing the two though. CC stated if you break the law, you will be beaten.

I don't get how they are outnumbered. There were people watching, but those people weren't involved, only watching.

After watching this a second time, I'm going to have to agree with dat dude on this one. Although, I agreed with him after the first time I watched it.

Notice once the guy is lying flat face down, he gets hit a few more times. The girl runs over and says stop and is immediately beaten even as she tries to walk away. She turns and says something else to him and is then maced, dragged by her belt loop and face slammed to the ground.

I don't know if there are any cops on this board, but I have 1 in my family and several others are friends. You're not trained to run in sticks blazing. How many fights have you seen break out and the cops try to defuse the situation rationally? In all of the bar fights I've seen (even saw a street fight in Detroit, and it was much worse than this), I have never seen a cop sprint in with his billy club swinging.

If there was an actual physical altercation between the cops and civilians, swing away, but a drunk girl getting in your face doesn't qualify.

i'm with dwcrew on this...no way should someone be beaten once already handcuffed and on the ground; and no way should a chick who is wandering around aimlessly after being pepper sprayed be mistaken for "fleeing the scene" and subsequently thrown to the ground.

The cop should be fired..period.
