D2 was only 4267. Urban school vs. a Cincy school

D3 was 6546. Two private schools

D5 was 7900. Public vs. private.

Those #'s seem low to me.....about 6000 on average.

Curious to see how D1 draws with a Cleveland public school playing.

Yep! looked pretty slim on the tv last night.

Usually go..but couldn't get there this year, but after saving 60 bucks in ticket money plus hotel costs, I really enjoyed kicking back and watching on TV. I may just not go back. I pay for STO, why pay twice?

And the Stark Co. advocates state other cities don't have stadiums big enough to accomodate the games, LOL!. If the games where in Columbus, Coffman (the alternate cite usually mentioned) would have looked empty as well.

No one really seemed to care about D2 all year.

I imagine the D4 crowd will be awful as well.

As long as OHSAA lets STO broadcast the games...the attendence will be down. My guess is STO pays more than OHSAA could ever make at the gate, even with a packed house.

You also have to take in to account what teams play in the games. Some schools travel better than other. Couple that with TV and there you have it folks...sub par attendence. I doubt this really suprises anyone. I know it doesn't suprise me. Darn shame though.

When the games don't fall on Thanksgiving weekend it makes it much harder for many people to get to the games (especially the early Friday games).

You are correct. Friday, being a work day makes it hard for the casual football fan. Friday games are mainly fans of the schools. saturdays crowds should be a little better. The numbers from Friday are actually embarrassing.

I believe the TV broadcasts are the biggest factor.

I typically go to at least 1 final (usually DI) every year, but this year I'm going to watch the Alabama/Florida game, then watch the DI final from home. Would much rather have the games over the Thanksgiving weekend. I live about an hour and 45 minutes from Fawcett.

I have always thought they should use Canton and Massilion and play all the games on Saturday. I think that would help.
Sure am looking forward to the D-6 game.

Put the games in Columbus, and attendance immediately doubles, if not triples. I for one am the casual HS football fan that would go to a game or two if they were more centrally located.

I wonder if the casual fan is staying away more because of the long drive and the same teams making it so often and those same teams seem to win more times than not.

This is going to be the 2nd year in a row that the private school has won four of the six games. I think this could be a factor in also, with the casual fan.

I will disagree with that opinion. The casual fan wants to watch good football games. I dont care who is winning, if the games are good. It seemed nobody had a beef when LBJ, and his private school buddies, were winning state titles. They packed the house.

The population center of the state is right in between Columbus and Canton. So, it changes nothing.

Doesn't matter where it is, the teams have to be appealing. No one cares about Maple Hts. or Winton Woods, so the number was abysmal.

Truth be told, WW and MH area bascially city league teams. They don't have the following of a Steubenville, Massilon, or Elder. I doubt more than a few thousand show up for their regular season games.

However, I do think they need to change the pace at least to keep interest. Bring the games to Columbus for a few years, see how it works out there. If it bombs move them back to Stark Co.

Why Cleveland? It's 40 minutes north of Canton/Massillon. That would be stupid IMO.

NE Ohio is already hosting. It's in Canton/Massillon..doesn't matter if it's in Cleveland or not. I guess it should go to Dayton, Lima, Akron, Toledo, and Athens too then? I mean..if the rest of the state is hosting.
