Weak OOC schedule??? Is that all you've got? Who gives a shit about that? It's been tougher the last few years but a lot coaches at upper tier programs play weak OOC schedules and most games at home early in the year so that's irrelevant.

33 out of 35 seasons the guy has won 20 or more games. That's consistency. And he's won a 'chip at a program that he built. It wasn't some Tubby Smith in 1998 situation where he won it with someone else's players. And what do you mean by "at Syracuse"? Jim Boeheim IS Syracuse basketball. It wouldn't be what it is without him.

Based on his career, he's great. Currently great, no. There are coaches in the game today doing better coaching jobs. But, career accomplishment-wise as far as those who still coach....K is tops. Then, Calhoun, Roy Williams, Boeheim, Izzo, Pitino. Not sure how anyone can leave any of those guys off a list of greats when talking about careers.

Actually the 1975-76 team went to the Final 4 the year before Boeheim took over.They were a very good program in the 60's too with Dave Bing.
Of course He is Syracuse basketball now because he has been their so long, the longest a player can stay is 4-5 years. Doesn't make him a great Coach. Great gets throw around too much. As far as the OOC schedules, I would like to see Boeheim schedule a Tom Izzo OOC schedule one time.

Syracuse played a decent OOC schedule the last couple years. Check it out. I don't think a coach has to play an Izzo OOC meatgrinder to prove something.

Great gets thrown around too often, huh? Well, consistency over 35 years is taken too lightly by some as well.

Also, Syracuse was good before but Boeheim has made the program what it is.

I checked it out...they played 4 true road games the last 5 years COMBINED.

Well, if he were the ONLY coach to schedule like this, your arguement would be legit. But he isn't. Its pretty much the common thing to do for various reasons. There are FEW coaches who consistantly schedule a very difficult OOC schedule. JB has a national title, has how many wins over MANY years. 'Cuse is consistantly a top 10 team year in and year out. He is a Hall of Fame coach. I am not a big fan of him, hate the zone, and heard him talk at a conference....put me to sleep. But he can coach, period. And for a geek, he has a HOT wife! ;)

So what? A team won't have a "true road game" in order to win a national title, so why should he get his team ready to play well on the road? Also, why would they schedule away games when they can keep bringing in millions of dollars in ticket revenue for home games?

I didn't ask how many "true" road games they've played. I asked you to check out the OOC competition the last couple years. It hasn't been that bad. And so they've played in some preseason tournaments on neutral courts the last few years....it's still been away from the Dome against decent/pretty good teams.

And yes, CBF....Julie Boeheim is pretty hot. And Jimmy B. does look like a geek. LOL

Coach K and Tom Izzo have both played 10 true OOC road games in the same time period, 2 1/2 times more. He may be a basketball Hall of Fame coach, a lot of people you or I have never heard of are in the Basketball Hall of Fame and I'm not saying he isn't a good coach, he just is not a Great Coach.

Which means we are back to just Izzo. Kudos to him. I respect his tough scheduling but it's not the norm and you(skyhook) are really reaching by trying to hold that against Boeheim (who is a great coach based on his overall career).

I don't know what schedule you looked at but this past year Mich st played Chaminade,Duke and Oakland on the road.
And in 06-07 they played Maryland and Boston College and they ALL count I don't care who schedules it.

Coaching a program like Syracuse for 35 years and you have only 3 Elite 8 appearances to show for it, your not a great Coach. That is my opinion and its not changing when Izzo can get a program like Mich St to 7 Elite 8's in less than half the time it took Boeheim to get 3.

Exactly. No one cares, especially not Coach K and his four national champion banners, which equal the total accumulated by both Dean Smith and Roy Williams.

In K's particular case, he believes it is more important for his team to be prepared for the travel and atmosphere that is customary of playing on the road at neutral, packed and loud NBA-style arenas in the NCAA tournament. That's why Duke annually plays a game either on the West Coast (during the national title year of 2001, Duke played Casey Jacobsen-led Stanford at Portland's Rose Garden; this year Duke played Oregon at the Rose Garden), in Chicago at the United Center (a recent example is Iowa State in December of the 2010 national championship season; Duke also played Valparaiso at the United Center in 2004), in Indianapolis (in 2002 Duke played UCLA at Conseco Fieldhouse), or in NYC or New Jersey at the Meadowlands.
