I've been wanting to get a motorcycle for a few years but I have finally decided to get one this year. I'm planning on buying an old bike to get my feet wet this summer and then upgrade next year. I've been looking on craigslist a lot but it is ridiculous how much over kbb value people are asking for their bikes. There is a '79 Suzuki GS850 that books for $945 and the guy is asking $1800. Anyway, what kind of bike do you ride? Any recommendations for a good starter bike? Got an older bike you're looking to sell?

Poast looks like a shorthand way to write pot roast.

I have a Ducati 848, but wouldn't recommend for a starter bike.

Realistically you should start on something 500 cc's or below, and something that you can physically handle.

I'm always skeptical of Craigslist, but during these economic times, if you find something you like, you can always negotiate a better price.

There used to be a place in Pittsburgh that took wrecked bikes, fixed them back to spec and then sold them pretty cheap...maybe you could go that route.

Here's my bike...

Yeah, I've been looking to find something around 450cc.

I just signed up for a Riders Edge beginner course at Buckminns Harley in Xenia that starts on Thursday.

Cool. I grew up with a brain surgeon neighbor. Anytime I wanted to buy a dirt bike, I always got a lecture from him on emergency calls he has taken over the years. Scarred me for life. He always called them Donor Cycles.

I used to have one many years ago. A 1960 Triumph TR6 pre unit, bored .30 over, dual carbs, higher compression pistons, and a Hardtail kit. After spending a few years on a Life Squad, and losing my neighbor to a bike accident, I sold it.

I have to admit I'm thinking about buying another one though.

...You sure buying the motor cycle isn't just a cover up so you can finally wear your assless leather chaps in public?
