He was doing his job, and its disgusting that OSU fans would bitch about it because they have a gay crush on Tressel

IT'S DISGUSTING

The problem is simply Hooley was an asshole about the whole thing. His crush on Matta is very apparent, as is the fact he despises Tress. You can't go on Columbus,Ohio radio and shred Tress in such a condescending way and get away with it.

The thing is that he's always done it, and when it's actually with merit he loses his job? That's really the thing I don't understand.

Same here. Can't stand listening to the The Curly man and the Turd.

It was just such a "sensitive" time. It would be like hating on JFK the day after he got assassinated.

I used to feel this way. The more I listen I find them absolutely hilarious. I still refer to them as the two idiots (or the Common man and the Tard) but i love their show.

And on topic I can't stand Hooley. It's like he tries to be a poor mans Cowterd.

Hooley was terriable. I still remember him ripping on different baseball managers for the way they managed bullpens even after the bullpen would throw three shutout innings and get the save. He always came across as an ahole. Hooley clearly had people he disliked and would take every opportunity to bash them even when things were going good. Also if you listen to the common man and the torg today they said they can say with 100% accuracy that OSU never called and complained and that he was fired for other reasons. They also said the ratings rumors going around were untrue and basically made up.

BTW
Ricordati actually posted a blog on facebook about himself and the firing of Hooley, and it's actually really well written:

can you post his blog i cant access the blog

The amount of power that Tressel has over his fan base is kind of scary......actually it's very creepy.

If you guys think Stanley and Rothman are an upgrade you must be smoking.

Stanley literally makes all of his listeners dumber as he gives us his insights.. examples..

"Expected to and Supposed to are two totally different things. OSU is expected to get to the final four but they aren't supposed to get there"

"OSU should make the final four but it would be a miracle for them to make the final four"

He says things like this to argue with Rothman perhaps, but they make zero sense. He is like an old drunk man babbling incoherent nonsense.

Dimitrious Stanley? He is the replacement for Hooley? If so its pretty clear that OSU only wants people who wear scarlet and gray glasses to host shows on The Fan and talk about OSU.

Basically, he and Rothman. They want guys that will "Rah Rah" the program. They also basically forced out Speilman by low-balling him on a contract offer. They agreed now that Speilman will air once a week instead. I know Speilman has a reality show too or whatever, but the contract issue is what really happened.

I know Hooley was doing just what he's paid to do, but like others have said, he could have been a lot smarter about it.

I won't miss him, he always annoyed the shit out of me.

Reports would argue that. I'm pretty sure kids are in school during his 2 hour radio show from (1pm-3pm) -- I dont think those hours keep you away from your family to be honest.

http://sportsbybrooks.com/official-buckeye-station-cant-handle-the-truth-29567

"Speaking of Spielman, at the end of 2010 the OSU icon himself left as a regular WBNS presence after most recently co-hosting a weekday talkshow with Hooley. Before effectively leaving the station, Spielman had appeared on the station regularly for the previous 10 years, even as his wife Stefanie endured her excruciating, protracted battle with cancer.
A station source told me today that WBNS station manager Dave Vanstone rewarded Spielman’s loyalty with an initial “hardball” contract negotiation approach with the Buckeye icon last September. Hooley was also provided the same treatment by Vanstone at the time.

It was that, Spielman’s family obligations and Vanstone and WBNS Program Director Jay Taylor’s micromanagement of the on-air approach by Spielman and Hooley that caused the Ohio State legend to re-evaluate his relationship with the station.

Despite what I’ve been told are recent claims to the contrary by station management, Spielman will now only make limited appearances on the station going forward. The new deal he has in place calls for him to make one appearance per week on the station’s two local shows and occasional appearances on a weekly show about OSU football.
Losing Spielman’s regular presence is, of course, an enormous loss for WBNS in more ways than one. No former Buckeye, save perhaps Herbstreit, is higher profile than Spielman thanks to his stellar football career and national television broadcasting work. And Stefanie Spielman’s inspirational battle with cancer is known by millions not only in Ohio, but nationally. The Stefanie Spielman Breast Cancer Research Fund has raised over $7 million for Ohio State James Cancer Center."

It's part of working in a big college town, unfortunately. In all cities like this, you bow down to the university, or they pout and refuse to talk to you.

WBNS is pretty much that situation on steroids. The Dispatch Corp. and OSU are pretty much Columbus, and they operate in absolute lockstep, which is bad unless you enjoy the tunnel vision coverage (and we know plenty do). Hooley did nothing wrong, but when you work for the de facto mouthpiece of the university, it is what it is.

It was that, Spielman’s family obligations
This would be spending more time with his family. Just because his show is 1-3 doesnt mean he is done at 3pm. Their are many things that go on behind the scenes as well he doesnt just get on the mic for two hours a day and be done. Also his kids are not in school year round. I'm sure he wasnt happy with his contract but i know people who have kids who play on the youth football team he coaches and he told them he wanted to be home when his kids walked in the door.
