No chance in hell.

No woman player in history could hold her own in the NBA, the game is way too physical

She would get physically dominated.

The only position I could possibly see is at PG but they would have to have extreme ball handling and at least some size.

I think its funny people out there actually believe Candace Parker could get playing time on a NBA team. In the NBA she would be an undersized two guard with below average athleticism, terrible ballhandling, and no outside shot. With her skill set, she would need to be at least 6'10" and 230-240 pounds.

Nope.

I would say that the best women players are the equivalent of a good high school player that is not D1 caliber. Maybe Division III or Division II but that's it.

If you've ever played open gym or any kind of basketball like intramurals and a girl decides to play, you'll understand this. Even the really good ones get swatted all over the place if you really try to do it.

No he's pretty close actually. I've talked to some guys that were on the practice team for Duke's women's team. They said if you were a good high school player than you could easily hold your own. And they have one of the best programs in women's basketball.

you are trying to say that duke's team is almost as good as a wnba team? not even close.

wnba players would destroy a decent high school player, but they will never been in the nba.

It makes for interesting conversation and it very well could be that a woman COULD play, but I see nothing beyond it being some sort of novelty/publicity stunt.

My sister was a state champion in shot put when I was in the seventh grade. She threw it a remarkable 43', however I could heave it 50'+...in the seventh grade. The times for the best high school males athletes are comparable to that of world-class females in track.

I see no reason why the best high school men's basketball team wouldn't be competitive with the WNBA. WNBA < HS All-American boys.

Exactly^

And don't give me the "evolution" bullshit... Men are evolving just the same, so we'll always be about 5 steps ahead, physically speaking...

I mean, look at guys like LeBron and Dwight Howard right now...

If there was one woman that could flirt with this idea it would be Diana Taurasi. I still don't think she even has the game to play with the men though.

No way. Physically they'd get destroyed. This is pure PC bullshit, plain and simple. There might just be a woman in the NBA on day, but she'll be marketing only. They'll drag her out and be all look at us, we're socially evolved, but she'd sit the pine. Stern is trying everything he can to make the WNBA, his baby, relevant.

No offense to anyone, but this is ridiculous. ESPN goes apeshit when a 6'8 woman barely dunks, no way a female could do anything in the NBA.

This is accurate, in college I did the practice squad with our women's team that went to the Final 4, and had a couple of players that eventually played in the WNBA. The most competitive women's players against guys were easily the point guards. If you have an athletic woman that can handle the ball well and has good speed they can be tough to defend, the team's point guard would easily make my HS team and probably could have started, she was 5'9 so wasn't too short and she could definitely handle the ball. She wouldn't have been a huge scorer and may have been a minor defensive liability but I would play with her. The post players struggled more because with many women height is somewhat of a diminishing quality. The team's center was a legit 6'9 and had a nice shot and was pretty coordinated for a woman that tall, but she had almost no upper body strength and couldn't jump. That wouldn't work against a decent men's team, and certainly not the NBA. Diana Taurasi is probably the closest to competing because she's so athletic and has decent height, but NBA players are no freakishly athletic a la Rajon Rondo, I couldn't see her beginning to be able to guard an NBA point guard.

No way in hell. Actually, I'm going to say I almost guarantee he's right. A woman will probably attempt to play in the NBA in the next decade--but she'll get destroyed, and in fact, I'd be surprised to see any coach ever bring her off the bench. Some GM will bite though for the publicity. It is totally politically correct bullshit--it's all about the money, they don't make that much in the WNBA, all the money is in the NBA. They feel like they deserve that much--but there is a reason it isn't there, no one wants to watch the WNBA. Don't you think they would have learned that by the time they become pro's? It's the same on every level--there is much more money made on the guys side of things. We've evolved as the more athletic sex, and duh, men have been the one breaking their backs for thousands of years. But whatever, I say let one in--if they can't just accept it then lets prove it to them.

Taurasi, Parker, whoever...none of them could do anything in the NBA. The only thing they could do is sit in the corner and be a set shooter (and they'd still get swatted A LOT)--but I'd love to see a chick even be good enough at that to beat out her male counterpart because the 3 is deeper and the ball is bigger in the NBA.
