NPR …. Good reasons to cut their funding

This is where our tax dollars go … to worthless, greedy, bias, anti-American organization. Let save the tax payer 89 million and cut the NPR funding now.

I read some of that when I signed online this morning.

I don't know why the government has to donate to media anyway.

I'm getting a little tired of hearing about O'Keefe.

NPR a liberal station? Not hardly. The audience is split down the middle.

Audience? Maybe.

Management? Liberal all the way, and they make no bones about it.

"The audience is split down the middle. "

The content is not. This is how one measures such things unless they're just intending to be argumemtative by making shit up.

There should be no reason they shouldn't have the ability to be self-sustaining with such a split audience.

I'm certainly a conservative, and I listen to NPR. I think it's fair to say that they're left-leaning, though they generally at least make a pretense of presenting both sides.

Seems that nearly everyone who has replied to this post agrees that NPR is on the left side of the political spectrum.

For those of you who are on the left....should our tax dollars go to fund a conservative radio network???

If a tax dollar supported organization takes one side or the other politically (i.e. NPR, Planned Parenthood, etc), their governmental funding should be cut to zero.

Let them rely on fundraisers, bake sales, etc....maybe even make them form a PTA....

And who decides what the middle is? And if we can define it, how much wiggle room do we give them? Is there any new organization that is truly in the middle?

To me I don't care if the news is right or left - what business is it of our government to donate monies to it?

Sounds like we need a litmus test of sorts, so that we can weed out the liberal organizations and take away their funding. I think there should be a media-based committee set up to explore this, with Rupert Murdoch as its chairman.

This.

I would vote for removing the politics from all newscasts and returning to the roots of true journalism....report the news, don't make the news, slant the news, put your 'spin' on the news, etc.

This goes for all news sources...expecially ones that I pay for.

A vast majority of network and cable-based "news" outlets would disappear if this happened, not that it's a bad thing. Jeez, that would mean that a lot of people would have to think for themselves when it comes to politics and elections.

The vast majority of them would not be missed......

This is not about class, viewership and where they fall into the demographic of America ..this is just simply wrong and waste of tax money.

The era of Federal Funding of organizations of any type is OVER … Acorn, Plan Parenthood, Community Serves, Faith Base, Public , NPR wake-up the buck stops now. If an organization can’t support itself on the merit of its cause … so be the failure.

Really? Management at NPR claim to be liberal? Show me a link supporting your claim. You can state your opinion on what you think their content is...but don't post erroneous statements regarding the management's stated position.

I would have hoped so....but it won't happen...because Americans prefer listening to train wrecks....from both fringe sides of the politial spectrum.

Here's my take

All government funding, grants or assistance for any and all non-governmental programs or activities needs to end today or ASAP. That's a pretty broad sweep of the brush, but that's tough shit.

I don't know I'd rather have a news organization be supported by tax dollars providing some incentive to stay unbiased than get all of its funding from say, George Soros, and have only an incentive to promote his "anti-american, anti-white male, anti-christian socialist/marxist anti-nascar" worldview.

But as a practical matter, NPR receives no direct funding from the Congress. See the link

Fair enough. However I would question your choice of words in using "pretense". Sort of like the "pretense" that Rupert Murdoch's show is "fair and balanced"...no?

The guy with the highest ratings by far and away....was the 10AM guy...forget his name.....but he was clearly a middle of the road person.
