Apparently the P90X thread is locked. Sunsofbitches. Just signed up for the Warrior Dash 6/1 in Mansfield. Now I have more motivation to start eating better.

Damn! Thats impressive, anytime you can deadlift or even squat 2x your bodyweight that is certainly outstanding.Azubuike24;1364764 wrote:Figured I'd bump this baby up. PR dead lift at 355 for a double. Eventual goal is to be at 2.5 X my bodyweight, and I'm around 167 right now.
I am currently getting back at it and recovering from a motorcycle accident where I had two badly fractured wrists and a pretty messed up knee. I took 3 months off from August-November but on Friday I hit 320 x5 deadlifting. I was sore as hell Saturday/Sunday but I'm not complaining lol.

Do you use wrist straps when you deadlift? I use it for my grip.birddog23;1365743 wrote:Damn! Thats impressive, anytime you can deadlift or even squat 2x your bodyweight that is certainly outstanding.

No. I try to use as little equipment as possible. Nothing against people who do use straps, belts, etc. but those can be used as crutches. I just have to tape my wrists now on certain exercises or else it kills (mainly OH press and bench press).Raw Dawgin' it;1365798 wrote:Do you use wrist straps when you deadlift? I use it for my grip.

I use any tool possible that allows me to hoist the heaviest weight possible to overload my muscles. I have no intention of competing in a powerlifting contest so I use straps for pullups, deads, pulldowns, rows, etc. Wrist wraps for presses. Knee/elbow sleeves for joint warmth. Slingshot bench press tool to preserve my shoulder joints. Horse liniment to warm up the joints.Raw Dawgin' it;1365798 wrote:Do you use wrist straps when you deadlift? I use it for my grip.

I use wraps all the time on heavier lifts, if not my hands get destroyed.

Deadlifting over 300lbs i use a belt and i use one too for heavier squats. I fractured my vertebrate when I was younger so i use the extra support just as a precaution. I use straps for rows and deadlifts because i find my hands and grip give out before I've reached my max rep. I'm considering getting a knee strap for squats. I see no problem using equipment that helps prevent injuries.BR1986FB;1365891 wrote:I use any tool possible that allows me to hoist the heaviest weight possible to overload my muscles. I use these for both my knees & elbows. Many of the competitors in the World's Strongest Man competition swear by the Rehband (blue) brand. They are thicker & more durable than the new (gray) version.Raw Dawgin' it;1365974 wrote:Deadlifting over 300lbs i use a belt and i use one too for heavier squats. I like these because you can wear them throughout the workout without the need to wrap/rewrap your knees in between sets. Plenty of support and keep the joint warm.

Agreed. Might as well just build a robot and have it lift for you. Anything to add more weight! :rolleyes:Raw Dawgin' it;1366024 wrote:Seems like a lot of money just for wraps.

Oh right, so those that don't need wraps, bandages, and other aids, are not only pussies, but now roiders as well. :laugh:Raw Dawgin' it;1366034 wrote:Because straps have the same effect as steroids

I use straps on max lifts. However, I've found that building strength has really been done with a lot of reps between 40-80% of 1RM with different rep and set cycles. I try to avoid using any equipment for less weight. I also dead lift in bare feet, Neoprine slippers or Vibrams, but it's more appropriate when everything is in my garage.

This - I usually only use belt and straps for my heaviest sets. Also do all squats and dead lifts without sneakers on.Azubuike24;1366046 wrote:I use straps on max lifts. If you really want to protect your joints, don't lift big weights. There's virtual no need to add muscle mass unless you are severely underweight or you are a professional athlete. Google what added weight, even muscle weight, does to your joints.BR1986FB;1366042 wrote:So...people who want to protect their joints for future use are pussies? Gotcha.
Also, there's just as much evidence that using straps can cause injury just as much as prevent it. Being a ***** implies mental weakness and the need for an additive in order to achieve something. Sorry!

So there is zero reason to increase strength and the amount of weight you can lift unless you're a professional athlete? Hmm...maybe it's this type of logic that leads to so many people being obese.
