This morning, Chris Wallace had Maggie Phelps on his program. She is the attorney for the Hillsboro Baptist Church, the family-run ministry which holds protests at military funerals. Earlier this week, the SCOTUS ruled in their favor in a suit brought by the family of a slain serviceman at whose funeral they appeared and held a protest.

She made some rather provocative statements on Wallace's program, and I applaud him for maintaining his professional dignity during her rants. I'm just glad her opinions are in the minority. Any other views?

Thanks for the correction. I was so enraged by her comments I completely forgot the name of the "church".

The best thing that can happen to that "church" is that the eldest/oldest start dying off. Without their true leader, Freddie, the clamps will start loosening up a bit. His adult (middle age) children are still trying to impress him, make him proud of them and by turns love them. Once he's gone, they'll still be who they are, but the lapdog subjugation will start wearing off. That will in turn trickle down to the younger ones. Eventually, that church will die off.

The best thing would to be just ignore them. They have have been around since 1955 and have less than 100 members. Who has ever heard of them until the last couple of years?
Most of the members are Lawyers who are looking for lawsuits to file because of the anger they create. That is how they fund themselves. Ignore them and their money goes away and they go away.

Yeah, I agree with you in so far as they get too much airtime right now. What I'm saying is that once the old man and his spawn die off, that church might actually have a chance to be decent. Or die off totally... in the future.

Any church that requires legal representation should probably be avoided.

I know that this is a small, family-based group and, as much as we'd like to ignore them, they cause pain for already grieving families who have lost loved ones in defense of their country. I totally understand the Court's decision in this matter, but to actually hear this attorney's words makes my blood boil.

I'll never be able to understand extremism dressed up as religion, in any incarnation.

Oh I don't disagree with a single word here.

In a sense, these groups are nothing more than offline "trolls."

Though it certainly would be difficult, if they're ignored, they die.
