Per ESPN.com:

The most telling statement was made just outside the Laker locker room, where Phil Jackson stood outside waiting for an electric cart to drive him down the tunnel and to his car. I told him Kobe’s shot showed why I’d take Bryant over anyone in the final seconds, even the guy who used to wear No. 23. That caused Jackson to raise his eyebrows. Now maybe with six seconds left, enough time to create a good look, I’d go with Jordan. But with only enough time to take a dribble or two, or to catch and fire, I’d go with the best bad shot-maker ever. Because even when it’s a bad shot, Kobe gives you a good shot at winning.

Jackson processed it all, then said two words that resonated as much as Bryant’s three-pointer: “I agree.”

I'm trying to remember the last time I've seen a buzzer-beater by 1 player to end the Half, and game.

Didn't Lebron hit a last second shot in 3 out of 4 quarters in a game last year towards the end of the season? (Don't mean to take the glory away from Kobe, I just remember Lebron hitting 3 last second shots and your post reminded me of it). might have been the playoffs, I can't remember...maybe I'm just completely wrong haha

Pretty sure it was the game at the Garden last year.

I'd rather be good, lucky, have 11 rings, have a MVP trophy named after me, and be one of the biggest pimps in the game.

I'm too lazy to find the link but Kobe shoots something like 25% in "clutch" situations throughout his career. That's pretty bad. You rarely hear about all the shots Kobe misses in crunch time but when he hits one everyone goes crazy.

With that said, going with the "I'd rather be lucky than good", Kobe is lucky. Getting one of the all time greats in the prime of his career to carry him to 3 rings, and then when he couldn't get it done himself, bringing in another great player in Pau Gasol to carry him to another one.

"bringing in another great player in Pau Gasol to carry him to another one."

Are talking about the player that was 0-12 in the Playoffs before coming to the Lakers?

Sleeper, I love Gasol, but that comment made me el oh el. As Skyhook stated, Pau had no Playoff success at all prior to joining forces with Kobe, and the rest of the Lakers.

Kobe had 0 playoff success without Shaq or Gasol, so I think the point is valid.

Gasol basically carried some of those Memphis teams to the playoffs.

And I guess Kobe didn't in 06 and 07?

He played for Memphis, even getting them to the playoffs is a challenge much less winning a game.

How quickly people forget Memphis was a bit more talented than LA in some of those years(assuming taking Gasol off Memphis, and Kobe off LA).

Lakers had Mihm, Parker, and Walton as "core" guys. Those first 2 were on the 17 win Cavs team of 2003. Need I say more?
